Duck Duck Go is ok and I use it sometimes, but they get results from Bing. Cute logo. :)
They use Bing as a source,

Quote

DuckDuckGo gets its results from over 50 sources, including DuckDuckBot (our own crawler), crowd-sourced sites (in our own index), Yahoo! (through BOSS), embed.ly, WolframAlpha, EntireWeb, Bing, and Blekko. For any given search, there is usually a vertical search engine out there that does a better job at answering it than a general search engine. Our long-term goal is to get you information from that best source, ideally in instant answer form.
But they don't get all of their results from Bing, like how Yahoo! Search is "Powered by Bing"

I don't see how. ixquick doesn't keep any of your data

Just lie. Google won't be able to get any useful info out of you that way. LOL

There are not many truly independent search engines, just front ends. Ixquick/Startpage uses Google, Yahoo and DuckDuckGo use Bing. I thought maybe Cuil would be different as it was started by Google defectors, but I just went there and at the bottom of the page it says "Powered by Google custom search". The next most popular search engine is Baidu, but if you want to use that in English, guess what?- "Powered by Google Translate".
So it appears search business is now a duopoly. I'd be happy to be proven wrong though.

Do you just not like google's results, even? I don't understand. They aren't sharing your information.

Also DuckDuckGo doesn't use Bing exclusively, they use Bing along with other stuff.

And using a search that includes Microsoft Bing results. Out of the frying pan, into the fire.
I don't ideologically see much difference, as long as they don't track you. I like Ixquick HTTPS as it's, well, HTTPS. :)

I don't have anything against Microsoft. They tried to take over the world and failed. Google may succeed, though. I'll stop boycotting Google if they'd give me a job. ;)

I sometimes use products from both companies. I sometimes eat Mcdonalds too. Doesn't mean I think any of them are actually good for me. :)

Back in '99 I was "between jobs" and a good position was available. The job placement recruiter spent a couple of hours with me to change my external obvious extreme distaste of Microsoft. A bank account balance in a single figure can be a wonderful motivator. I did get the position but my hatred of Microsoft didn't go away till BGates left the company. My dislike subsided when Alchin left.
Oddly , I do admire BGates the person.

Right now I'd kiss Gates' ascii for a steady paycheck. I've been out of work 47 months; the longest stretch since I was 16 years old. :(

No. I have no career to be on Linkedin with. I was a component level electronics service tech (RF communications and consumer audio) for 20+ years. I haven't worked in that field since 2000. It doesn't exist in this country anymore. I'm a man without a classification. :(

ahh, you never know who is looking for someone with electronics knowledge. Especially companies with smart help desks. Besides, you might meet some coworkers from long ago who remember you.

I have networked and spread the word and begged, borrowed, and considered stealing a job. Nothing has worked. I'm not really looking for anything in electronics because my knowledge is too obsolete at this time. If you don't use it, you lose it. Also, I've been the "help desk" route. My last job ('07-'08) I was a customer support tech for Philips America consumer electronic products. This job was my first experience with the "call center" environment.

Let me state this plainly... I WILL LIVE UNDER THE INTERSTATE OVERPASS AND EAT OUT OF MACDONALD'S DUMPSTERS BEFORE I DO A CALL CENTER JOB AGAIN. Yup. I'm pretty vehement about that. ;) That was a miserable work environment. It was stressful, unhealthy, demeaning, and just plain bad. And from what I've been told, the place I worked was one of the nicer call centers. They are truly hɘll holes to work in.

So, anyway...

Heh! Way ahead of you, crp. I've had the Donate button on my boards, blogs, and website for a while. It's helped some, too. However, I prefer to not budget my upcoming months based on what I think I might get from that source. I do play to lottery regularly, though. ;)
