"Do you begin to see, then, what kind of world we are creating? It is the exact opposite of the stupid hedonistic Utopias that the old reformers imagined. A world of fear and treachery and torment, a world of trampling and being trampled upon, a world which will grow not less but more merciless as it refines itself. Progress in our world will be progress toward more pain." -George Orwell, 1984

BTW: In another thread, Temmu was asking about flowers and saying we didn't have any emoticons for flowers! Looks like we did have one!
I have added two more at the end of the emoticon list today at Temmu's request. But looks like it could have come in handy for you too sunrat!

We are all very blessed by Scot to have created this wonderful place for us to hang out!
Thanks Scot!

Seriously... YES! Much love to Scot for making this all possible.
Oddly enough, I was a subscriber to the old email newsletter long before I ever came to this board. I remember when Urmas dragged me over here (to ATL, specifically) when I first started my GNU/Linux adventure. I got so wrapped up in ATL and Linux, it was months before I realized there was a whole wonderful board around that forum. I'm glad I ventured out eventually. I've come to love this place and the people who inhabit it.
Off I go...

In fact, some of us have known Scot since the old WinMag (info on the colums that each of our favorite writers used to write including our own Scot Finnie who wrote Windows Insider for WinMag) days.
If you were an old WinMag reader, you might like to know where some of your favorite writers have gone. Some of these may no longer be active, but you will be able to see where they went after WinMag went belly up. Many are still quite active elsewhere on the Web!

Fred: Glad to see you referring to Karen Kenworthy’s letter. Since it’s been a couple years, it’d be nice to have a recap as to where all the old Winmag folks have gone and what are they producing now in terms of material or newsletters (Scot Finnie, Mike Elgan, John Woram, etc.). Just a thought for a LangaList topic sometime. I still miss Winmag myself…Dan Lah
I don’t have them all, Dan, but here’s a partial list:

P.S. Tushman seriously needs an avatar. Something new, too, not that same ol' Nvidia one. Boy! I'm one to talk about using old avatars, huh?
