i'm not lion!
mt lion, yapples newest software almost-release, puts the ipad os on the mac.

now, win 8 is supposed to do the same thing - put the touchy-feely ms phone os on a pc.

finally figured it out.

opinions welcome!

Got to love the WSJ, and not being able to read the whole article.......

But Apple, IMO, is moving to a computer as an appliance model. For those of us that like to tinker, it is a huge problem. wink.gif

But aren't we there already? Unless you have specialized training and equipment, you cannot replace components on the motherboard anyway. We throw away hard drives when a few sectors go bad. If a hard drive was a 5 or 10 thousand dollar monstrosity like in the old days, one would expect to be able to repair it.

The fact is, tech starts out geeky, becomes mainstream, then moves to an appliance stage. It becomes throwaway.

Moving iOS type features to a more traditional mac and eventually locking down the OS is the next strep towards this appliance future. Specs are already mostly meaningless today, and soon the OS will be as well. I would imagine that WIndows would do some of the same things.
