greets!

well, i want to do the "right thing" by installing ie 9 on a fresh install of vista.  ("friend's" laptop).  here's what comes up:
you need ie 9 to install ie 9.  yes, that's a legit screenshot of the install on top of the ms website!     and no, i didn't 'shop this one.

You said it is a fresh install of Vista. Any service packs installed?
According to this http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=16792
you need SP2 installed to download. perhaps that is the problem.
