Flash: MandrakeMove is now available!

MandrakeMove is a new Linux desktop product designed for the PC platform
that requires no installation and cleverly uses a USB key to save
personal data and settings.

MandrakeMove is a complete portable productivity tool for computer users
who are "on the move" and who require a light and full-featured
operating system without the requirement of lugging around a laptop.
Just insert MandrakeMove into a CD-ROM drive, plug in the USB key, boot
from the disc, and a few seconds later enjoy a complete and
full-featured Mandrake Linux operating system!

MandrakeMove includes everything needed for Internet, Office and
Multimedia tasks on a single bootable CD, including a full-featured
office suite compatible with Microsoft® Office documents. In comparison
to other "LiveCD" Linux systems, MandrakeMove provides numerous
enhancements that make it a truly unique product.

doesn't require installation and may be used without advanced knowledge
of computing.

Don't know if they plan to offer this for general download or not? I assume so as that is how Mandrake operates.

I like the live cds and they work well when it becomes available would be worth a try.

Recently got Knoppix boots up in about 2 mins the only thing I had to configure was the modem.

You can play around with everything without worrying about reinstalls way cool biggrin.gif

Bruno tried both Move and PCLos earlier and preferred PCLos. Last I heard Tex was just waiting for the loan of a USB key to finish testing of usb home.

At that point it should win hands down. The download edition of Move does not include USB support.

No Sonic this does not use the new kernel . . . . . and like Owyn writes here above, the MandrakeMove is absolutely no competition for the "other" Mandrake Live CD: PCLinuxOS

Well, it´s better then the beta . . . . . but the menu is really made for people who never came near Linux . . . . . all names of apps are replaced by descriptions by what they do . . . . . Like: "send email" for kmail and "browse the internet" for konqueror . . . . . Was nice to try this one, but there are better Live CD's . . biggrin.gif

Just for the statistics: ( boot to KDE in minutes )
SlaX: . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1:35
PCLos:. . . . . . . . . . . . 1:45
Mandrake Move: . . . . 2:05
Knoppix:.. . . . . . . . . . 2:10
SUSE Live:. . . . . . . . . 5:55
DSL:. . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1:03 >> No KDE so hard to compaire !!

Bruno:

Make sure you re-run this check when PCLos PV5 is available. A lot of work has been done to improve both the boot and application activation times.

Well, I downloaded fine, but I notice that the selection of available programs is a bit sparse. No Mozilla. sad.gif

If you want a better selection of files then wait for PCLinuxOS version V! I think the verdict already came in that it will be a top notch distro. smile.gif
