Well, I had Fran and I did it again just to make sure. This time I let Synaptic ( which I may have done previously ) install it and here is the result when I click on iron;

I think you need to extract all of the files in a directory to be able to run it.

Did that help réjean? Were there files that hadn't been extracted?

Well looking at his image it looks like he was clicking the executable inside the archive (file-roller?).

Whoa! Missed that entirely! Sure is.

Need to use the Extract button after highlighting all files/folders in the archive and then run it after they are extracted to a folder.

Great catch there Josh! thumbsup.gif

I really  need to put down the books I've been reading and the PC games I've been playing (Deus Ex Human Revolution wink.gif ) and check out this browser. It looks interesting.

If you've already tried out or used Google Chrome, there isn't any visual difference other than the program icon.  The changes are all under the hood so to speak.  Both browsers are very fast and renders pages nicely.  I would stick with the books & Deus Ex HR both are far more interesting. biggrin.gif

Well Eric tries to keep away from Google owned stuff but Iron has all the tracking crap stripped out of it so he may enjoy it.

Like I said I let Synaptic do the work but I also downloaded the file several times, created and deleting a " iron " folder several times to no avails.  So I went back to Bruno's tutorial;

You should know that I cannot install Chromium either even if it is listed into Synaptic.

So as of now I have no c hromium, no iron and definitely no gold.

Oh, I have Google Chrome installed in Slackware. I also have Chromium (the original) installed in Arch. I rarely use them, though. The problem with browsers for me is that my Firefox is very customized, and I've never been able to find a browser that can do all the things that my FF does now, so...

I basically just play around with other browsers. FF is my primary tool, though. It's kinda' funny. I used to experiment with browsers back in my Windows daze, too. I had 6 or 8 of them installed at any one time. IE, FF, Netscape, Mozilla (the original), Opera, CrazyBrowser*, Avant*, etc. Had a lot of fun playing with them back then.

I used Avant primarily; was even a Mod at their support forums and assisted in the Help files for that app. I think they still give me credit for that in the Help section. My 2nd choice in browsers back then was Mozilla (which is still alive today as Seamonkey). Sadly, I don't believe that Mozilla's engine worked to its full potential in Windows. It ROCKS in Linux, though. smile.gif

Try running this from inside that directory. It looks like the executable: iron-linux-64/iron
CODE
[rejean@localhost iron]$ iron

Chromium installed fine in aptosid using apt-get. Haven't tried Iron yet.

I don't mean to detract from this thread - but just what do you mean by that Eric?  Are there some features that we're missing out on for Windows?

Ok!
Now I feel ridiculous blink.gif I went into Synaptic with the intention of installing either Opera, Epiphany or any other browser because I find that if I open ( let's say ) Al-Jazeera from within Firefox while I am listening to CBC radio and playing sudoku FF has the tendency to crash after awhile.
Anyway I looked past FF in Synaptic and found a iron-browser 14.0.850.0-1pclos2. So I decided to try installing and look;

I am replying from the iron-browser with my bookmarks bar easily imported.There even was a Livestation that I installed ( which doesn't work because they haven't come up with a -64 bit version for 3.2 ( Livestation that is ) but this is not pclos fault. )
So I am almost back to where I was before I lost Mandriva in late November, early December ).
Thanks everyone who tried helping me. It was greatly appreciated.

"Do you begin to see, then, what kind of world we are creating? It is the exact opposite of the stupid hedonistic Utopias that the old reformers imagined. A world of fear and treachery and torment, a world of trampling and being trampled upon, a world which will grow not less but more merciless as it refines itself. Progress in our world will be progress toward more pain." -George Orwell, 1984

I don't mean to detract from this thread - but just what do you mean by that Eric?  Are there some features that we're missing out on for Windows?

No, it just didn't seem to run as fast or as stable in Windows as it did in Linux. I don't know that there is a difference at all these days. This was a few years ago for me (2006 or so); many versions ago.
