Just in case you haven't read about it yet.OSNews interviews the Arch Linux Development Team. It's long, but it is broken up into 6 html pages. http://www.osnews.co...Arch_Linux_TeamReading their answers and the subsequent OSNews reader's comments provides an insight into the positive/negative - let me rephrase that - realistic expectations of Arch Linux experience. Interesting term used: "Plug-and-pray installer"Just a few selective quotes:"Arch attracts people who want to understand and customize their system and build their own packages 'without a hassle' instead of (re)-installing the system in 30 minutes.""Arch Linux is about freedom of choice . . . there is no such thing as anaverage desktop""Arch works. It's that simple. One reason is its simple design, the otheris that its users are required to know and understand their system - andwe make it easy for everyone to understand it.""The Arch Linux community is very strong and friendly and communicates alot."Cheers

I am still on the first section but the devs give a good explanation as to why there is no pre-built ISO for those that need a desktop in 30mins. I could not agree more :thumbsup:Although I use Arch, I do not think being a "easy to setup and configure" distro is a bad thing. They make life easier for new Linux converts who would be otherwise turned-off by a text-based installation/setup distro like Arch. Plus some people just want something to work without having to configure it. Just like everything in Linux/FOSS, it is all about choice. :)This explains a lot of about how and why Arch behaves the way it does. I think I will add this to my tutorial since it explains Arch in a way I can not.

Novice users can setup a desktop system using Ubuntu without knowing anything about Linux-based operating systems. But advanced users will be scared of a system trying to hide system internals by custom configuration and build tools they have to learn that may also inhibit them from customization of the system.

HAHA! I've heard that "plug and pray" installer comment used for Gentoo, Slackware, and Debian before.
