Below a preliminary version of the most important links to handle Fedora Core versions 5 and 6. I left out the older versions while version 7 is being worked on. You're all invited to post links to fill up the empty spaces ! Next week I'll try to resort the list.Bacics
hate to be that picky, but the spelling should be Basics :hysterical: On a more general note about Fedora, after struggling mightily in trying to installZimbra , Scalix and other applications I have to question the use of Fedora as the basis of on operational setup. For one thing,  the "life-cycle" of Fedora versions are just too short. I got the FC5 installed and running properly on a dual XEON pc mere weeks after it was made available when FC6 is announced as ready to go.  Additionally, and this may be related, the OS seems to be too immature for applications to correctly setup on. Aside from the SELinux fiascos, companies have problems determining how to create proper setups on Fedora. Here is an example from a Scalix install log, it is not unique in my experiences:WARNING File /home/downloads/scalix-core-11.0.0-beta/software/scalix_server/scalix-server-11.0.0.196-beta.rhel4.i386.rpm is not for this platform(copy both lines to form the download link)Is this Fedora's "fault" ? Perhaps not really, but the problem is quite real and gets in the way of trying to find solutions. I have problems with yum either not understanding which release to use or not finding the proper files, to the point that yum is just about useless. If I could have one wish from RH, it would be to bring back the good old plain RH days. The RHEL are a tough sell here (and in other places) but a plain RH10 selling for $195 ...EDIT: Split the link to two lines so it wouldn't break the page --Bambi

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. ~C. Thanks for replying crp, the spelling was edited, or better say the whole topic is under a constant edit while being updated and/or corrected. But someone keeping an eye on these things is always appreciated. For the rest all I can say 'it depends' , in most cases on the hardware but also on the skills of the user. I just have been very lucky for years while I know of some others who are definitely not.Yum : yep, it's not perfect, you're right. But what is these days ?Besides that the topic is not meant to be a 'here's it all' , just an informative starter. Nothing to serious or advanced. One can take from it what he or she likes and skip the rest.

maybe not, but it is a terrific list and you deserve a lot of credit for putting it together.

Hi StrikerWhat I am still missing in the links is a Hardware Database. ( the one from RH is: https://hardware.red...wcert/index.cgi  should we use the same one ? )Once we have that I propose to add this section to the Great Linux Links  ( note the last one is a link to this thread ):

In the Major Distros section there is already a link to Fedora ( http://fedora.redhat.com/ ):hysterical: Bruno

I would use the same HW database for now. I'm still hunting that one down but it seems to be ... never produced or thought of or something like that. On the other hand RH E/S/AS and all its derivatives are more stringent when it comes to hardware.Just go ahead Bruno, I'll keep an eye on the topic whatever happens and need to update it regularly. So if I encounter the real Fedora HW database it will be in the links soon.found one... a beginning is made to create one >> needs updating, so I know it's far from complete. Better don't use it now, use the RH one.http://www.fedora-li...i/index.php/HCL
