Email Account Provider

I find I need a dependable email account. Comcast appears to be out to get me me, continually returning email to one of my credit card providers saying it's undeliverable (CC company has the right address, I've checked) and also being unreachable for long periods via POP or IMAP. I know I should have it out with Comcast, but when I've tried that in the past I've wound up accomplishing nothing and also feeling that beating my head against the wall would be less painful.

Anyone have any recommendations for a dependable alternative email provider? I'm trying to avoid gmail if possible.

Not that I expect Comcast to go away anytime soon but it is generally not recommended to use the ISP provider as a primary email account. Locally, there is a new ISP that has faster/less expensive service and many people have been switching to it from Spectrum. They suddenly realized that they had to do something quickly about changing their email. That can be quite a task if it has been used a long time.

I'm not crazy about gmail either. I've been using Outlook.com for many years. This support document has information on setting up, calendar, etc. Get help with Outlook.com.

These also may be of interest:

Use inbox rules in Outlook.com

Use Outlook's built-in search filters

I use:

Yahoo

Hotmail

Gmail

AIM

and my original ISP emails from Verizon.

No troubles with any of them. I get them all via POP/IMAP in T-bird.

Unfortunately, there are no longer many free POP/IMAP providers out there. I was grand-fathered in for Yahoo, Hotmail, and Gmail; otherwise POP/IMAP costs $$$ from them these days, I believe. AIM is still free, though.

POP3 on port 110: Yes

IMAP on port 143: Yes

https://www.gmx.com/mail/

Supports POP, IMAP, Webmail, and has apps for Android & Iphone

One risk with free email accounts is that sometimes they get abused by spammers, and (for example) Earthlink will block mail from them until the situation is resolved.

I also have the VFEMail (free 50 mb) to use if I start getting "bounces" from someone I want to reach.

That looked good until I started digging around and found this:

GMX Mail is one of the few major email providers which do not provide users with the option of using two-factor authentication (2FA) to secure their email accounts which is a form of Multi-factor authentication. This leaves their users accounts open to logins from unauthorized devices if the users password has been obtained.

I've never used my Comcast email.

I use: Juno, Yahoo, gmail, outlook, teknik, gmx, mail2world and I have a proton account.

Despite its bad reputation, gmail just works.

Juno has never allowed me to change my password and sometimes places in spam an email from someone I've gotten for ages. Yahoo is up and down. Sometimes I get a ton of spam and then for weeks, no spam. I don't like outlook's interface and and it tends to load slow. gmx insists on starting with a page and a slide show of what's trending. All I want to see is my inbox. I started moving emails subscriptions to that account away when they got flashier.

gmail recently changed its format. It takes long to load so I switched to basic html. It is ugly looking but it loads really fast. Not all the settings are available in the new but not improved version so I sometimes need to switch to the slow loading version, make the changes then switch back and set basic html as the default.

I've searched and have yet to really find an email (webmail interface) that I love.

Every few months I search again hoping something new appears.

You know pickings are slim when Yahoo is at spot #3!!!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I have discarded various email accounts over the years and still have an account at att dot net that I could use, but those accounts are now handled by Yahoo, and I feel about them the same way I feel about Google. I don't know whether the email being returned is a problem with Comcast or not--other email is delivered without issues. I figured if I tried a new account and CC company still had a problem, then it would be on them to figure out what is going wrong.

I'll check out the suggestions. Thanks again.

My ISP (Rogers) uses Yahoo as its email service. It is what it is. On my main desktop, I installed Thunderbird to get the email from Yahoo. I have Gmail and Outlook as well for throwaway email. My web hosting service also provides an email address for my domain but I haven't bothered with it as yet.

It must just be me but I didn't think any one ever used their provider's email address. I haven't used an ISP's email address since the days of Prodigy and Compuserve.

I know people who use Comcast and Verizon. When they switch from one to the other, they have to hope they inform everyone about the email change.

I try and persuade them to get an email not tied to the ISP just in case they decide to switch back again.

That is how I think about it.

I never used my Comcast email--always used several different ones for different purposes at att dot net. After I was with Comcast for 10 years, I started using that address for things I wanted to be sure I received because it wasn't full of garbage like the older accounts.

Set up account at protonmail yesterday. Seems to be good service--don't think I want fully paid account yet, but will make a donation.

One of your original complaints about Comcast, was erratic performance with POP and IMAP.

This led me to believe that you frequently use an Email client (like Thunderbird), where Multi-Factor logins aren't normally used.

I do use Thunderbird but don't mind web-based email that isn't pushing a load of junk at me every time I try to log in.

Sorry, but I never mentioned Comcast.

My bad. The way you replied, led me to confuse you with the author of the original post.

No worries :) We all have bad thoughts about Comcast ;)

Thankfully, I've never had any experience at all with Comcast. I've never heard anything good about them, either.
