abarbarian
I only use Win 7 for games. Everything worked fine for several switch and off's since I last did some game updates from Steam. Then I did some updates from MS and switched of the pc. On switching back on Win 7 seems to start ok, says Windows on a black screen and the the logo thing appears, then the screen just goes black, no response to anything at all. I have tried to use the original CD to do a repair but using the repair utility finds no faults. It says I can use some restore points but they are from Feb of this year and I have installed quite a lot of new games with tweaks since then and do not wish to loose all that. What can I do to rescue the Win 7 install ??? Thanks in advance folks. :'(
ebrke
Any help here? http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-system/windows-7-boots-to-an-unresponsive-black-screen/88cab12b-6977-4d47-bb0e-f6b6c7642e7e
V.T. Eric Layton
Windows sets up restore points every time it installs new updates. If you don't have any restore points since February, you haven't been updating regularly. If you updated just recently and it was a HUGE SHIRTLOAD of updates, then you've probably borked your Win 7 all the heck and gone. Guest LilBambi
Sounds like maybe the master boot record has failed maybe? Might try lifeboating data and reinstalling to see if that flxes it. You haven't been using registry cleaners have you?
Guest LilBambi
Maybe something here might help. There are several reasons for black screens... http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/why-is-my-screen-black-when-i-start-windows-
Capt.Crow
Had that exact problem a couple of times.Discovered that forgetting to take the usb stick out before booting was the culprit. May be a little help.
