mhbell Posted April 10, 2017 Share Posted April 10, 2017 (edited) Debian Stretch Released RC 3 today. I downloaded and installed it. It had many bug fixes and some improvements over RC 2 which I also have. Both are installed on my Hard drive and are working fine. I have been making changes and configuring them the way I want. So far no problems. I have a Deb file of the non free Radeon Graphics which solved a lot of problems. During install it asks for a file in the Non-free repo called rtl_nic/rtl8168h-2.fw But since I don't have it I told it to continue and it seems to find what it wants and configures my wired connection. Everything is working so far. Looks like it will be a winner when 9 is released. Below is a Screen grab of my Strech RC 3 desktop after modifiying it with cinnamon. It's a fine distinction but that's how Debian define it. Of course it does install Stretch in its current state of development so is worth using for the latest version. saturnian Posted April 11, 2017 Share Posted April 11, 2017 Haven't used RC3 yet, but I used debian-stretch-DI-rc2-amd64-netinst.iso to do a network installation -- added Openbox to that -- and I used debian-stretch-DI-rc2-amd64-xfce-CD-1.iso for a Stretch Xfce installation. Both systems look great. I'll probably skip RC3; I have one more Stretch installation to do, on my "business" computer, but I'm gonna wait until after the Debian 9 release for that. At 3.5 GB it seems that it is a Release Canidate and the page at Debian says it is Official. https://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/ All images linked below are for the version of Debian Installer being developed for the next Debian release and will install Debian testing (stretch) by default. To install Debian testing, we recommend you use the Stretch RC 3 release of the installer, after checking its errata. The RC3 netinstall iso is much smaller, of course. I think they are in fact referring to it as the Debian Installer RC3. At the Debian Installer page, there's this: Or install the current weekly snapshot of Debian testing which uses the same version of the installer as the last release: By "the last release" do they mean the last Jessie release? Seems a bit unclear to me. I see that the isos under this section don't have "rc3" in the names, for example the current weekly snapshot for amd64 netinstall is "debian-testing-amd64-netinst.iso". But in the section above that, the "Official release" amd64 netinstall iso is named "debian-stretch-DI-rc3-amd64-netint.iso". Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
