Malwarebytes

I have the pro version(live) of MB on a windows 7 64 bit system with a AMD (6 CPU 1090t) and 4 gb of memory.

When I boot the system from a cold start the performance is very slow to do anything.The task mgr. shows Malwarebytes using the most CPU cycles as well as the system Memory..I guess it is scanning and thats fine, but it should not wack everything until it's done, usually in 5 minutes or so.This leads me to my question..

Has anyone else noticed this or is this unique to my particular system?

I looked in MB settings and can not see how to either delay it or let it scan with less resources.

I have Malwarebytes running on a family member's win 7 64-bit system, and I haven't been made aware of any problems like you describe. Also ran it on another machine from 2009 until last year with again no issues that I'm aware of. It's odd--I wonder what's up with your system? I'll check to see when the Malwarebytes runs on my system and ask the user if they've noticed anything at that time.

Hi ebrke,

I have just been googling and found I am not the only one..I used to use the FREE version but I recently got the Live pro version which works in the background..That seems to be the one that is causing more problems especially when you boot up...

You are not the only one. I have 5 machines. All have MBAM Pro. Two of the slower ones are my Acer netbook with Win7and my wife's older eMachines with XP. Both of those boot very slow with MBAM enabled at startup. They take almost twice as long. Maybe 50 seconds without MBAM versus 100-120 with MBAM to reach useable status. I finally turned off real time MBAM on both of those and the difference is very noticeable. I have a shortcut on the desktop, so it's there if I need it. I keep it updated and run an occasional scan. As long as you don't visit obviously bad websites you should be OK. I also run MS Security Essentials, WinPatrol Pro, and Spywareblaster on those machines. The last one uses no resources but offers protection from "bad" sites.

jolphil, I also run MBAM pro and MSE on a WIN 7 Pro 64bit PC. Intel i5-3350P CPU @ 3.3 GHz and 8 GB RAM booting from an Intel 240GB SSD. No noticeable slowdown on this machine. You can change the auto-scan schedule by clicking on Settings in the MBAM dashboard, then click on Automated Scheduling and then on the Add button and create a schedule that fits your needs and usage of the PC. Then delete the current Threat Scan schedule.

Good morning Mac,

This is on my wifes computer and when she turns it on in the morning she has to wait approximately 10 minutes before she can check her e-mail or browse.The computer slows to a craw. I goggled and found this is fairly common on many computers. Malwarebytes opens when the computer boots and does it's scan.This apparently hogs the CPU and Memory. Users have suggested that you can exclude the antivirus(McAfee) and in McAfee exclude Malwarebytes. I did that.. I wish there was a way to schedule a scan when the computer has been idle for say 15 minutes or so but i could not find a way in malwarebytes to do so.

I hate to go back to the free version which is inactive until you open it because active protection is better and has a better chance to stop something nasty and has on a few occasions has done so.

As Mac says, you can change when Malwarebytes scans, but only to a specific time of day. It's too bad you're having trouble with it--I have always been satisfied with it. Is there a more convenient time you could schedule the scan for her?

I have MB installed on 5 computers (all have licenses) one is XP and the other four are Win 7 (both 32 bit and 64 bit and Home Premium and Pro).

NONE of the computers is set to let MB scan at startup.

First delay protection startup AND check the last box Reduce priority of scans to multitask.

Next look over the scan schedule

You can set it up to scan weekly. On my husband's desktop, which he uses infrequently, I have it set to scan monthly.

If I feel it needs a scan, I can always do it manually.

 

If you have questions, ask. I've been using MBAM for years.

Hello,

 

Have you checked in their forums? Perhaps they had a bad update or something similar that's causing performance problems. That happens to all anti-malware vendors on occasion.
