So that is why Harley's are such solidly built bikes, I always wondered. :P

I don't believe that is a Harley. It's a Japanese Harley wannabe. It looks like a Honda VTX similar to this one...

It could be a Harley, but that dash (the display on the top of the gas tank) just doesn't look Harley-ish at all.

Ah! I've zeroed in. It's probably an older model Yamaha VStar like this one...

I've rode 'em all. I can usually recognize 'em from partial pics. It's like "Name That Tune." ;)

I almost wonder if that is just a very high quality photoshop job. I say that because you'll notice that the tires aren't nearly as flat as you'd expect them to be with that fellow sitting on that bike.

Actually I think that's really sad. and horrible if you think of the five gallon drums filled in the Liposuction store. What happens to all that stuff.

Power generation???

Folks,

Let's try to not let this thread get out of hand with posting pictures of overweight people. It is mean-spirited, and not really what we stand for here. It started as a discussion about the state of obesity in the United States, and is starting to become one where fat people are mocked.

If the thread continues this way, I will lock it.

Return to your regularly scheduled foolishness. :)

Adam

PS- I don't really care about the topic going off topic, only the topic that the topic drifted to. Does that make sense? >_<

The one thing I would disagree with you on is "unwed" pregnancies. Nature being what it is Nature will do it's thing . So giving out about unmarried mothers is not cool . It's a hard station either way and so many of them are there through broken promises ,desertion , coercion, etc, etc. Most of them do a fantastic job bringing up their kids sacrificing their own aspirations to service those of their children .So often without any input from the fathers. Not to mention the stigma that so called respectable society heaps on top .

So even those who use this method to gain support from the state are at the back of it all raising "hopefully" good people.

So in the immortal words of John Lennon ..lets "give peace a chance" brother.

The same could be said about any person's situation including judging anyone for whatever reason such as being overweight and assuming you know why that person has a weight problem and judging them unworthy individuals.

OK taxes are high . Paychecks are not what they should be .The sick, aged and mentally infirm will always be with us . The economy is nothing but smoke and mirrors. If one really wants change in society one has to start with the vote and how it's cast. Why are trillions of dollars garnered by big corporations and buried offshore . Get the taxes owed by those guys and the tax burden on everyday people will vanish like smoke in the wind.

If the downfallen were not given a modicum < and believe me it's tiny compared to the defense budget> The world would be a very poor place to live. Did you know that the wars in Korea/Vietnam produced more junkies than at any other time in history.

The main bugbear is that taxes are levied harshly . Nobody thinks to write you a letter to tell you a simple thank you.

Temmu I have the feeling that you are a true guy and I do see where you are coming from. You just might get around your friends and set up a voting group . It's the only way there is any chance of changing the status quo. The pebble in the pond. .

Yes, many of us who work hard are paying for others to have things that we are not even able to provide for ourselves; such as medical, dental, eye exams and glasses, effective grocery funds, etc.

As Capt.Crow mentioned we don't have much control over this (noting votes are the only way, which I agree is true, but year after year...it's not very effective).

I totally understand Temmu's thoughts as well.

Even though this happens to many of us, we still find out of our need to help others who are in greater need as well. Not with much but it is more than we can afford to give.

We can't get bitter. It would be easy to do so, but we can't allow it to be so...can we? It's not healthy for us to turn that inward and hurt ourselves...

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,

With conquering limbs astride from land to land;

Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand

A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame

Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name

Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand

Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command

The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she

With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

;)

I actually got the unabridged Roots by Alex Haley from Audible on sale ... it's huge (30 hrs 7 minutes)! Great book BTW! And Avery Brooks is a great narrator. The WorldCat.org library has a copy of it.

The deadtree version is 912 pages. ISBN 0-385-03787-2 (first edition, hardback)

Tap Roots (1948) - IMDb -- wow, still 6.8-10 Stars

Morna Dabney is engaged to soldier Clay MacIvor in the days before the War Between the States. Morna's grandfather Big Sam Dabney founded their Mississippi plantation near Levington, which thrives in the Deep South, but he remains loyal to the Union, as does his son Hoab, Morna's father. As Mississippi secedes, Hoab plans to withdraw the area around his plantation and remain neutral, and he gains support from local newspaperman Keith Alexander. Keith falls in love with Morna, whose fiancé Clay has joined the Confederate Army. Clay plans to punish the would-be neutral citizens of Levington by raiding the area, but Morna, with the help of her grandfather's Choctaw friend Tishomingo, attempts to thwart the attack. Morna sacrifices greatly to protect her home and the man she really loves. Written by Jim Beaver
