Before the war Britain imported 70% of its food . . . 91% of butter.
I knew that butter was rationed severely, but I never realized that it was this bad. Sorry, off the topic of carrots. My family had British friends and knew about the food issues, but somehow we missed the carrot campaign. Interesting!
