SueD
I installed Mandriva Spring a few days ago, and after reading all that I can here and at the wiki, I think I've got everything running as it should...except for my video card. I have an nvidia geforce 6200 but I can't get it configured. Halp!
striker
What' s the exact problem Sue, can you elaborate a bit ? You see, the list with graphics card drivers was cleaned up and now only refers to the actual chipset used on the specific cards. But let' s first listen to what the exact problem is... Bruno
One additional querstion to the ones Striker already asked: did you install "dkms-nvidia" ? Bruno
SueD
Well first off, my card isn't in thehardware list and it keeps pointing to the 7950. The installer says it's got drivers for it and would I like to install them...I say yes after making sure nothing else is installed...nada, zip, zilch...it doesn't work. After some fiddling, I now have dkms-2.0.16-1mdv2007.1.naarch, dkms-minimal-2.0.16-1mdv2007.1.noarch, and dkms-nvidia97xx-1.0-9755.1mdv2007.2.i586. I'm not 100% sure but I think that's what I've got in PCLos Final too.I apologize if I'm not explaining things right.

Bruno
I can see what is wrong . . . you have the kernel-source for the 2.6.17-13 kernel and you are running the 2.6.17-14 kernel . . . . so that is why the dkms-nvidia package can not compile at boot. Please install the "kernel-source-stripped-2.6.17.14mdv" from the MCC . . . and next make a backup of your xorg.conf file # cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf-BACKUP And edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file . . . this part: Section "Device" Identifier "device1" VendorName "nVidia Corporation" BoardName "NVIDIA GeForce FX - GeForce 7950" Driver "nvidia" Option "DPMS" Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals"EndSectionFinally reboot and you will see in the boot-messages that the dkms-nvidia will compile during boot ( you see dots, like this: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . )Next you should see the nvidia splash and all should be fine. SueD
It didn't work. I can't get "nvidia" to stick in the xorg.conf file. And it still shows the card as NVIDIA GeForce FX - GeForce 7950...mine's a 6200. Does that make a difference?Striker, is that really necessary since I never have the resolution at 1280x1024? Bruno
Hi SueThat is shows the card as "NVIDIA GeForce FX - GeForce 7950" is not very important . . . but an you show the result of ls -al /var/lib/dkms And maybe do # updatedb ( takes a while to finish. If the command returns an error please install "mlocate" ) # locate libglx.so Bruno

Does that make a difference?Sue, please read this:http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/Releases/Mandr...list_cleaned_upIt'll explain it all. FWIW : I have a Geforce FX5200 in the machine and it's handled by Spring as a 7950 too : it works, no fear !Striker, is that really necessary since I never have the resolution at 1280x1024?Well, if you want the best out of it yes, it's the native resolution of your Acer. If you don't set it to that, the resultant picture is of less quality, that's how LCD's work. OTOH : If you're used to it, go ahead. It won't blow up the Acer. Bruno
I can't remember (it's been a few days since doing it) but I'm almost sure I did it through the MCC. You should be able to find them with a "green tick" if they are installed.Maybe add the PLF sources and look if they have dmks-nvidia for you. Here is how to add the source: # urpmi.addmedia --update plf-free ftp://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/linux/plf/mandriva/2007.1/free/release/binary/i586/ with media_info/hdlist.cz # urpmi.addmedia --update plf-nonfree ftp://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/linux/plf/mandriva/2007.1/non-free/release/binary/i586/ with media_info/hdlist.cz If you use the PLF ones you better dig in the MCC first ad uninstall all other nvidia packages.
