Just out of curiosity... what site is hosting that flash video? My Chromium doesn't even show the video placeholder box in your post. I have all my blockers/filters off.

I'm looking at it from a live-DVD of Knoppix and it shows a placeholder but whines about needing Adobe Flash player. I usually ignore that situation when I encounter it, but the title is real catchy and arouses my native curiosity... Heh!

That is so weird. :(

When I use my FlaskBlock, I can see the video placeholder, but as soon as I allow the Flash, everything disappears. If I right click where the video was, it says "Video not loading..."

A check at Adobe says, "You have version 14,0,0,125 installed." I believe I'm running Peppermint Flash, though, if that makes a difference.

Odd. I'm in Google Chrome now, not Chromium, and I still cannot see the embedded videos here at Scot's. I see (and play) them fine on my own board and elsewhere online.

Yes, very ofd. Google Chrome plays it fine in Debian. Even though I can't let it buffer/play the whole thing due to bandwidth limitations.

Have you checked to see if there is an update to Chromium and Google Chrome?

There have been two updates lately; both version 36.x versions in all my OSes.

Some vidios and games require the very most recent Flash or Flash equivalent to run for security's sake.

There- I finally got to this on a tower that can handle flash. Watched the whole thing. Funny, interesting. A lot of it was above my pay grade, but I think I got the gist of it anyway. It was worth the time to watch it. Thanks, Josh!

I'm running Chromium Version 35.0.1916.153 (274914) and Chrome Version 35.0.1916.153. Neither auto-update. I'd have to recompile in Slack... too lazy at the moment. :(

OK, fully updated now...

Chromium Version 36.0.1985.143 (287914) and Chrome Version 36.0.1985.143 --> Flash 14.0.0.177 on both browsers.

Still no joy. :(

Wonder if something has changed here?

I don't know. I was playing vids here just the other day, it seems.

Can you post the raw link to this video (in the code - /code box) so I can visit the site directly and see if I can view it there?

Nevermind I got when I opened this page in FF. By the way, plays fine in FF.

I've had trouble with embedded videos in Chrome on my watch forum as well. I think it has something to do with the forum software. Embedded videos always work fine in FF.

Bryan Lunduke is a very entertaining speaker and he and his audience have fun with this topic every year.

He obviously does not think Linux sucks, and turns his criticisms around to spin them so they are a good thing a lot of the time.

I find it interesting that the Debian universe seems to be expanding quite nicely. Debian based distros can be challenging enough for the propellerheads, or fully featured enough for anyone who simply wants to replace XP on any sort of older hardware. And of course Debian itself ain't too shabby. :th_run-around-smiley:

So, anyway...

Getting back to the Linux Sucks video...

Entertaining. I agree with some of what he says, not all, though.

I'm sad. Very little mention of Slackware or what it has brought to GNU/Linux in the last 21 years. All the moneybag outfits get talked about, though... SuSE, RedHat/Fedora, Ubuntu, etc.

How things get created and fixed in the GNU/Linux - Open Source community is pretty darned amazing. It reminds me of an insect colony... ants or bees, all working diligently to make something or fix something in the hill or hive.

well at this point I would say that Linux sucks when it comes to running on laptops. past week spent on installing on Toshiba Protege distros and didn't find one that handled trackpad well. The couple that worked ok with the trackpad did not work well with the power management.

winXP , 7 and 8 do just fine on it - unfortunately server08 did not :(

probably will go with 7 on it.

Wow, really? I run Linux natively on a desktop and a laptop. And the laptop was a 64-bit Debian Wheezy from a totally different laptop. I plopped the hard drive in the newer 64-bit laptop expecting to have to reinstall the OS. Nope, shake and bake ... and go!

One was an HP Intel Core 2 Duo and the newer one I plopped the hard drive into was an Intel Core i3; they had totally different video cards and sound cards but everything worked on boot.

Sorry to hear that crp.

That is odd. I have 2 laptops and a netbook and I have yet to have any issues with the trackpad. Maybe it is just using a weird driver or something. What does lsusb or lspci identify it as.

The Fujitsu runs Slackware very well .I was pleasantly surprised as several other distros were very glitchy .

well I avoided Slackware because it is such a pain to install. but since you mentioned it ...

after 3 installation attempts I finally got it to take. then there was fun in getting X-windows started (turned out i needed to dl a whole directory of packages)

but then - well, it seems to be working out pretty well. the trackpad is tracking and clicking on the taps, power management seems to be working correctly.

Now if i can just figure out KDE4 ...
