Why did Google buy the whole company instead of just entering into a patent sharing agreement?Why should HTC keep producing Android phones when Google is now a direct competitor (put another way- why wouldn't the other Android producers produce their own OS for a phone or use QNX,etc? )How is a company known for making billions by not having its own customer support (Google) going to integrate a company where if you don't have customer support users will just leave in droves? They could have had the Nokia patents but others offered more. Maybe they didn't want that to happen again.Besides, if they didn't, looking again at the Nokia deal, someone else would have. You'll scratch my back, I'll scratch yours...They didn't have to buy the whole thing, they could have just purchased partnership/ownership to the patents. and they can fight all they want, by purchasing the whole thing they have taken on the responsibility of customer service for all the users of the phones and software. When they start laying off people in customer support and just have the other Motorola users provide support, those patents are not going to keep the customers from jumping ship.And why would Samsung,HTC,etc just go with this idea? But according to one analyst, those patents are "crap" and won't help Google very much in its patent battles over Android.David Martin, founder and chairman of patent consulting firm M-Cam, said on Bloomberg West today that Google made "an immense mistake" by buying Motorola, for two reasons: Motorola already sold its best patents.
