lewmur Posted September 1, 2015 Share Posted September 1, 2015 (edited) After claiming for months that Lollipop would be released "early in the third quarter", for the Galaxy Tap Pro, Samsung has announced there won't be a release for these tablets. So I gave in and rooted and installed the Cyangenmod Lollipop ROMS on my T520 and T900 tablets. I don't use Hulu much on my tablets so I didn't notice at first that Hulu no longer worked. I first noticed it yesterday on my T520 10" tab. Called Hulu tech support and gave them the error number and they'd never heard of it. Went through the normal tech BS of re-booting the tablet, clearing the apps cache and data and even re-installing the app. No help. Then the tech wanted me to restart my router and check my internet speed even though Hulu was working fine on my desktop using the same connection. Apparently they have their "check list" and if you don't jump through their hoops they won't push the problem to the next level, so I reluctantly complied. No help of course. Finally they said they'd push the problem up the ladder and get back to me. After hanging up, I decided to try Hulu on my other tablets and discovered it worked on one running Android 4.4.2 but not on my T900 12" tab with Android 5.1.1. It became apparent the problem was with Lollipop. So, I called back tech support and gave them that info. They still weren't aware of the problem and had no solution but, because it was a different tech, insisted that I go through all of the previous rigmarole all over again. AARRGGGHHH!!!! To make a long story short, I gave up on tech support and Googled "Hulu for Android Lollipop". Surprise, suprise!!! There is a Hulu apk specifically for Lollipop. D/L it and it worked on both tablets. Now why in HE!! didn't tech support have that info?? "Hello, tech support. Error 987? No problem. Use this link to get the apk for Lollipop." edit: Actually, the apk should already be available in the Play Store and there wouldn't have been a problem to begin with. First off most tier 1 tech support people are complete idiots who are only reading from prompts on their screens. Secondly even if they did know about the apk, they couldn't tell you as it is out of their range of options to tell you. Lastly they really couldn't tell you that as sideloading apps aren't tracked by the Play store and if you got malware, they would be liable since they told you to sideload an apk. Sideloading is an option on Android but just like if you manually installed a package on your computer instead of using the distro's packagemanager, it would not be tracked or verified so it could be potentially dangerous. That said, hulu works fine here on the normal hulu tablet app from the Play store. What version of Android are you running? As I said, I only had problems with Android 5. Works fine with 4. And even if they weren't allowed to tell me about the apk, they still should have acknowledged knowing the error 987 was related to Lollipop and that they were aware of the problem. Even if they didn't have a solution. The reaction that I got was that they weren't even aware that there was a problem. Also, the apk was written for Android 5.0 which has been around for quite awhile. The fact that the apk exists, and cures the problem, proves that I'm not alone in experiencing it.
