Apple's Role in Japan during the Tohoku Earthquake (Kevin Rose's Blog) and Report: Japan Apple Store offers power, support, shelter (Macworld)From Kevin Rose's blog link:
Wow, this email is from a friend of mine that works for Apple in Japan... makes me happy Apple went the extra mile here, check out his story...
Great piece! We reported on this on our show on CNI Radio Saturday night as well. From Macworld link:
As the tragedy and aftershocks of the Japanese earthquake still unfold, one Apple Store employee offers an account of how Apple is doing its part to help.On his personal blog, Web investor Kevin Rose posted an e-mail he received from a friend who works at an Apple Store in Japan. Rose’s friend, who wished to remain anonymous, explained how the store has been offering power strips and device charging cables to anyone who needed them. The store has stayed open late into the night teaching people how to check news on their devices or use the store’s free Wi-Fi to e-mail and FaceTime with loved ones.
Developers donate proceeds, services to Japan relief efforts (Macworld)
The multiple disasters afflicting Japan—earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear—have created an outpouring of charity around the world. As part of the effort, several Apple-oriented software developers are donating services and money to ease the suffering of victims and their families.
Nice list of well-known third party Apple developers! Great job!

The devastation in Japan is just mind numbing. According to one news report, they say that US donations from the general public is down slightly compared to the outpouring of support during the 2010 earthquake that hit Haiti. (roughly 20% less). That could be due to the stagnant economic conditions and the number of unemployed. Whatever the case might be, it's nice to see companies like Apple stepping up.
