The reason why I got the 8gb model instead of the 16gb is because I have 32gb on both my phone(Atrix 4G) and tablet(HP Touchpad) but I only use about 2gb of the storage for wallpapers and some pdfs. Other than that, I use Pandora or Google Music for streaming music and I can ssh to my main rig for all the media I desire.

Not at all. I only have a few devices B)

If anything, I am just evolving to a better mobile experience. I went from using a laptop(s) to a netbook . Then I got a 10" tablet and sold it to buy a HP Touchpad(9.8") from Adam and now I am getting a 7" tablet with excellent specs for ubercheap ($199 + tax/shipping). The Nexus 7 is a lot more powerful than my Touchpad (quad core with a higher resolution), it is smaller and cost less money so how could I not buy the device?

With the lowering prices, it does not really hurt my pocket to only spend a couple of hundred bucks every now and then. It has been like 9 months since I bought my Touchpad so it's not like I buy them all the time. That and I have been saving for a few months since the pricing of the Nexus 7 was released back in March.

The factory images were just released Google Releases Full Factory OS Image For The Nexus 7 "nakasi" Tablet (Android 4.1, JRN84D) »

I usually just image my installations before rooting and such but this makes it so much easier.

Also, the user manual has been released as well: Google Nexus 7 tablet user manual | Consumer Electronics »

I still do. I like their message.

When you start getting older and that eye sight starts to get dimmer and those fingers aren't as nimble, you'll be wanting to go back to BIGGER devices that sit on your desk. ;)

Well they already do amazing things with laser surgery and as time goes, it will be come more affordable. Right now you can get laser corrective surgery for around $1000 an eye.

As far as bigger devices that site on your desk, I will always have a desktop machine as I enjoy building and upgrading them. Plus I love multiple monitors!!! Tablets and other mobile devices are just that: mobile devices. These types of devices are not made to replace you home machine, they are made for 'on the go' computing. It is much easier to pull a 7-10" tablet and look up something really quick (with a full, feature-rich browser) or send a quick email instead of finding a place to sit down to pull out your bulky laptop, boot it up, connect to a wifi network and then look something up.

For instance. tonight at work our internet was down (Comcast) and the boss was wondering what the deal was because their were no storms in the area. So I simply pulled out my android phone and used an app (ConnectBot) to ssh to my home computer (also Comcast) and saw that my internet was working fine. So he then called Comcast and was notified that one of their poles went down a few blocks away and it would be fixed within the hour. Now he could of just called to begin with but since I had the internet in my pocket, I was able to tell if Comcast went down in the area (mainly worried about my home internet) or just his part of town.

I find mobile devices like tablets and smartphones an invaluable resource. No matter where I am or what I am doing I am able to check my email, browse the forums, run tasks on my home machine via ssh and pretty much anything else. Plus I am able to enjoy media no matter where I am like books, movies, streaming video, the occasional game, etc. all from a small, thin device that weighs less than a pound.

That is a sweet device!

As an early adopter, we'll expect all the lowdown on the good, the bad, the ugly (if any). ;)

Will do

Hello,

I was looking at the packaging for the Nexus 7 Tablet and noticed that the town in Asus' address was misspelled as "Freemont" instead of Fremont. When yours arrives, could you tell us if this is corrected?

Man, you are my techie hero! ;)

I cannot help that I am so awesome ;)

Oh, and about RATM... still together, just not active at the moment.

Excellent, they got back together!!! I knew that they broke up in 2006 but it is great that they are back together. Good thing Chris Cornell decided to change his tune:

Members of the band had been offered large sums of money to reunite for concerts and tours, and had turned the offers down.

I cannot wait for the new album to come out, it will be epic!! :w00t:

So why does spending $200 for a Nexus 7" make more sense or more exciting than $160 for this ?

Well let's see:

Skytex -- ARM Cortex-A8 processor + Mali400 GPU are built for speed

Nexus 7 -- ARM Cortex-A9 Tegra 3 Quad Core with a 12 core Nvidia GPU

Skytex has a 5 point touch

Nexus 7 has a 10 point touch.

Skytex has no GPS and is running an older version of Android. (ICS versus JellyBean)

Also, the Nexus 7 is an official Google product so everything will work beautifully and you will actually get official updates from Google.

Also the resolution is a lot higher on the Nexus 7:

Nexus 7: 1280x800

Skytex: 800x480

So there is a huge increase in speed and power with the Nexus 7 versus the Skytex Gemini.

Sounds like a decent device, but you did read this didn't you?:

No Sales of Galaxy Nexus in US -- for Now

Apple are behaving like spoilt, bad-tempered babies when anyone makes a device that may slightly resemble theirs.

Apple just loves trying to stop innovation and claim it as their own. Patent trolls, plain and simple!! This needs to stop!!!!

And people wonder why I completely despise Apple.....

The first paragraph says Google Nexus phone. I have not read anything about stopping the tablet.

Yet! :hysterical:

This has to do with Samsung which manufactured the Nexus phone. Asus manufactured the Nexus 7 and has no legal issues with Apple.
