Happy Birthday

To the first Star Wars movie released to theaters on this day in 1977. In 1997 a modified film retitled to Star Wars: Episode IV "A New Hope" and re-released on DVDs with some CGI enhancements. It earned almost $800 million world-wide, out-grossing all other films at the time. Only losing that distinction in 1982 with the release of E.T. The Extra-terrestrial.

It was a few weeks before theaters in Mobile, AL started showing the film (I lived in Fairhope, AL at the time), and my wife and I stood in line for over an hour to get into the theater to see it.

40 Years ago. My how time flies!!!

There most be something fundamentally wrong with me. I was never a fan of Star Wars baloney. It was OK, but it wasn't my cuppa'.

I've never even seen The Rocky Horror Picture Show, either. I remember when that was the current rage back in the 70s.

I'll go crawl back under my rock now...

The only Star Wars movie I saw was the original. I really liked it.

Most of the time a 2nd, 3rd and 4th rendition of a movie just isn't as good as the original so I tend to avoid them. I have no plans to see the new one coming out. (I actually prefer movies from the 30's and 40's and a few like Margaret Rutherford as Miss Marple from the 50's).

We're old, Liz. I watch all the retro TV channels these days. If it's in B&W, I watch it. I love movies from the 30s-40s. I love westerns from the 50s. I still watch Perry Mason every night. ;) I haven't watched a prime time broadcast (NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX) show in over a decade. I do watch some of the modern series from cable channels, even though I don't have cable. I watch The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead, etc. I loved Sons of Anarchy, Breaking Bad, and Justified. However, I can sit down in front of an episode of Laramie or and old Bogie movie and really enjoy it. They don't make programs/movies like that anymore. It's all gone the way of real leather and meat products without hormones, pesticides, or soy. :'(

. . . Margaret Rutherford as Miss Marple from the 50's).

I enjoyed those too, but I always thought that Joan Hickson was a little more like the Miss Marple of the books.

hah Eric, wait. You are still young compared to me.

I don't think I've ever seen her play Miss Marple. I just had a look and those are tv movies which I've never seen.

I have an Angela Landsbury movie in my queue at Netflix, The Mirror Cracked.

They were made in the eighties I think and shown in this country on PBS in Masterpiece Mystery. I have them on dvd too.
