I am running the 6.06 for the last 2 hours . . desperately trying to find a bug . . . but have not found one yet :whistling: Looks like a good release to me !- The only thing I dislike in KDE is the new KDE Control Center . . . . in the old one it was easier to find things.- Gnome has a better filebrowser then previous versions . . and ( for the first time ) I like the icon theme !:whistling: Bruno

hmmmm, well might have to give the Kubuntu DVD one a try if the seeders hold out - getting just under 300KB on bittorrent

so would I be crazy to install this over top my pclinux??I'm running the DVD version right now. Can't figure out the root/user switching, can't figure out how to super user mode file manager, wondering how hard it is to get nvidia driver installed - other than that it seems ok.

I upgraded to Dapper from Breezy through apt, and now it won't let me log in. This is not really a new problem, I've talked about my issues with freezing here numerous times. However, those usually occur sometime after logging in--at least, it would let me log in sometimes. This is consistently freezing before I get to the log in screen. However, to be fair to Ubuntu (because it is very possible I screwed up a config file somewhere), I'm going to try a fresh install before I abandon hope. If this doesn't work, I might just give up on Linux until I get some new hardware that doesn't give me these problems.

Glad to hear it is on time and final! I have been using Dapper for a little while (just used gksudo update-manger - d to upgrade breezy) I can't say that I have ran into any bugs with Dapper... did have to use the legacy nvidia driver and kernel source to get glx working correctly before it went final but I am now using current nvidia.Good work Ubuntu! :D

I went the cheap route - ordered the free Kubuntu CD from shipit. The free Ubuntu CD I received last July encouraged me to finally have a look at what linux was about - again! It worked so well, unlike my earlier attempts to figure out linux that I decided it was time to install it and use it. I actually didn't install Ubuntu (problems with sound). If I can get sound working in Dapper Drake, I may go the install route. Thanks for all the info Bruno.

Many replies in one post:@ Kelly: . . . . nope I would not replace PCLos with Ubuntu . . . I think PCLos is superior :D@ Neil: . . . . . Sorry to read about the update woes, I hope the "clean install" does a better job. ( was this the 64bits system ? And did you use the 64bits sources.list for the upgrade ? )@ Ghost: . . . . Glad to see a success reported :) !!@ Liz: . . . . . Good thinking ! Just get the CDs delivered in the mail . . makes it so much easier ! I hope your hardware likes this version better. ( NOTE: Myself I selected the hardware in my computers to be Linux compatible from the start, that is why most distros do indeed run without problems on the systems I own. People who have a computer and turn on to Linux some time after actually buying the hardware, are in a more difficult position, they will have to look for the distro that actually likes the hardware available. )B) BrunoBTW: the "LTS" in the name "Ubuntu 6.06 LTS" means "Long Term Support" ( release 6.06 will be supported for 3 years on the desktop and 5 years on the server )

Yea I am keeping PCLinux - Kubuntu just doesn't feel right, not really sure how this is a good distro for someone just starting out.

It's fun, it feels right... :whistling: I did the upgrade (Ububtu) Breezy -> Dapper with update manager. It modified my sources list by itself... and, now that the smoke has cleared... everything works just fine. :) :)

No, I've just been using regular i386 versions for a while. Both have the freezing issue, though.

Ordered my cds yesterday, Ubunbtu, Kubuntu and Edubuntu plus a couple for the Mac. No problems on any of my machines with any distro, they must be all Linux friendly! :hysterical:
