DarkSerge
Does anyone know how to disable a particular update in Windows 10? Windows Update keeps re-downloading and installing a device driver for the touchpad on my laptop, but I don't want it. I want to keep the default mouse driver from Windows 10, it works better than the driver it downloads. Every time I uninstall the software, Windows Update re-installs it but I can't see an option to hide that update or stop that one update from downloading. I've already gone to Advanced System Settings > Hardware tab and told it "Never install driver software from Windows Update" but it already re-downloaded the update and wants me to install it. zlim
Perhaps go through the steps here? http://winsupersite.com/windows-10/stop-automatic-driver-updates-windows-10
DarkSerge
I've already done that, and it's downloaded (but not installed) the driver. Last I checked it's still waiting installation. I found a dialogue box tool from Microsoft to hide the updates. I told it to hide that update but it still shows (again, hasn't installed). Last time I booted that computer it wasn't using that driver, but it still being listed makes me think it'll install the next time there are other updates. DarkSerge
I've tried two different methods and the system still wants to install the driver - the one listed above by zlim and the dialogue box tool from MS that hides updates but Windows Update still wants to install the driver (and did on the last update round, which I've uninstalled it again.) It keeps installed the ELAN touchpad driver and software, which aren't fully compatible with Windows 10.
Capt.Crow
Not the cleanest way . adblock and blacklist that particular url.
Guest LilBambi
It is coming from Microsoft, isn't it? Wouldn't want to block Microsoft...
DarkSerge
I've found one more method to uninstall the driver that might help it stay gone. I uninstalled it through the Device Manager and checked the option to delete all data/software associated with the device. Before I was uninstalling it by removing the software through the Control Panel. The last time I booted up it was running the default driver that I like better and it didn't list the ELAN driver in the Windows Updates. We'll see how it plays out the next time there are updates.
Capt.Crow
Was a time when Auto-updates took so long and hauled in so much sheer dirt ,that I turned it off. After that I used to manually update ,critical only. That way there was some control as only what was wanted was checkmarked and downloaded. As for windows defender that was a complete time waster. Yes indeed w/update has really gone sooooo slooowww! AFAIR.every patch has it,s own url extension. (kick this into touch if totally wrong for these days) . Seems to me Windows pilots had a much better deal with W95 through XP than they have now . Either how there are so many Linux distros out there that are simple enough to install and run in a handy fashion . Pick one that has Netmanager. A note book, pen and the manual to read while fine tuning and you will be up and running and wondering why you ever paid for Windows in the first place. That's how I moved over to linux . Dual boot and lilo . All your windows files can be read by Linux, not so the other way round .
DarkSerge
This is on my laptop, which is my only Windows machine. All my other computers are running Linux now.
