Memorial Day

Recommended Posts

Is a U.S. holiday in solemn remembrance of those men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the service of their country.

My family has been fortunate that no one on my Dad's side or Mother's side (their parents or brothers or sisters) died in the service, even though all the males served in WWII. Ditto for my wife. Dad did have two cousins who died in WWII. I have ancestors on my Dad's side who fought in the Revolutionary War. And ancestors on my Dad's side and Mom's side who fought in the Civil War, but on opposite sides. Dad was from Swanville, Minnesota, Mom from New Orleans, LA. Among my and my wife's 27 male cousins I'm the only one who served - 1966 to 1973 USAF, spent a year in Viet Nam in 1969. My son and one of the sons of one of my cousins are the only two of their generation who have served.
