One more Firebird (Phoenix) Question...

Okay... I know that since I've started using Firebird, I've had a bunch of questions... and to some of you it may seem like overkill, but I like this program, and want to make it as effective as IE was for me.My next (and hopefully last) question is: Is there a way to allow me to use RDWC (Remote Desktop Web Connection) through Firebird? I can open up the page, but it doesn't install the ActiveX plugin so I can actually connect. Anyone figured this out yet?

ActiveX is Microsoft proprietary technology that is not safe, therefore Phoenix doesn't have support for it.Only browsers that are using Microsoft technology can use ActiveX.Even on IE if you pump up your security settings high, it disables ActiveX. Funny thing they have this "advanced" technology but don't have proper support for PNG lolSorryGolfProRM but I don't think you can use that through Phoenix, you are locked in Microsoft proprietary stuff

yeah... I was afraid of that.... it's not a big deal, but would be nice to be able to convert 100% at work to Firebird. I'll just have to keep IE around to load my home desktop...

I can only suggest you to use VNC, which supports web-based remote desktop connection in java.
I've used VNC before, and while it's a great program, it doesn't work very well when the monitor I'm using is smaller than the monitor I've got at home... Without a good way to change resolutions, it's especially annoying to run an 1152x864 desktop from a monitor that supports up to 1024x768... I know I could just change resolutions on my main desktop, but it's a pain to remember to do that every day...At this point, I think I'll just have to keep an IE link in my quicklaunch, so I can use it for my RDC... use Firebird for everything else though :)

There are several things you may need IE for. WindowsUpdate, for example, last time I checked, required IE. There are several other things in Microsoft support that require IE too. Don't dump IE. Your approach is the right one.-- Scot

I'd never go so far as to try to remove IE from my system... I was just hoping to drop it from the quicklaunch and replace it with Firebird... I guess to do that, I'd have to switch to a non MS operating system permanently... easier said than done too...Although, the nice thing about Windows Update is that if you leave the WinUpdate link in the start menu, even if IE isn't the default browser, it'll open IE to run that... so no need to keep IE there on my home machine!!
