Man... I'm getting teary-eyed watching ESPN right now... The Wizards' game just finished and they're running clips from MJ's past... tough to watch him go. I grew up watching MJ play, idolizing his ability more than anyone... It was tough to watch him go before, but now, I know he's not coming back... Here's to the Greatest EVER!!!

At the risk of having my head handed to me, you never felt like Michael was a bit of a ball hog? I always felt like he was trying to do it all himself (granted, at times, he had to). But I find that to be boring basketball to watch. Not taking away anything from Jordan's obvious amazing talent. But, I greatly preferred the 80s (and older) Celtics, where everyone had to learn to pass and play defense. In particular I liked watching Bird precision pass. Team play is what interests me most about basketball.Of course, I'm probably just trying to get a rise out of you -- or someone. ;) -- Scot

Well I'm to tired right now to get into an argument about basketball, but I do agree with you to a point. But can you fault the guy for being a ball hog when he had more talent in his big toe than the rest of his teammates did combined? Shoot, the man singlehandedly won Chicago 6 rings... granted it is a team sport, but there are times when one man must rise above.

A good point has been made. If any game has evolved before my eyes, it is basketball. Wilt, the Bird, Connie, the Westphalls (and I think, Kevin Johnson of the old Suns) personified a different game from Michael's. Today, it seems to me that there are no Celtics and Knicks the way we remember them. NBA teams are largely matched up; the talent is incredible and the depth of the teams is unmatched in history. This is the real home of the superstar, because being 10% better than the rest of the giants on the court will yield big results. The reason that MJ could "hog the ball" is because his team mates encouraged it. If you watch the tapes, when an opposing team could successfully guard MJ, he became a passer, throwing them off big time. There is nothing that can stop MJ from going down in history as one of the greats, but that won't take away from Bird, et al., it will only add to it. Basketball is simply the most vibrant and evolving sport of our time.I remember the game in the "Madhouse on McDowell" in 1971 when the Phoenix Suns thrashed the Knicks...Wilt came out on the court with Bradley, and they shook every Sun hand that they could find. Gentlemen...

I totally agree with Scot, MJ should be great for having the ball 90% of the time. Anyone with that much ball time should be good. I like the guy and everything and fun to watch but the rest of the team needs to play and step up too.I will always be a die hard Celtics and Knicks fan where did those two teams go? Oh well they will be back!

I have always been a Lakers fan, and my love of basketball grew during those 80's years, too. My preferred players were Kareem, Magic, Worthy, Scott, Cooper, Rambis, et. al. I loved to hate Bird, McHale, Johnson and the rest (they were just so darn good).I would have to say, though, that there has never been a single player whose skill and presence on the court impacted basketball more than MJ. He will be missed.

I use to be a Jordan fan....but the last several years the hype just made me sick of him. I am glad he is retiring....AGAIN. Besides, he was truly a shadow of his former self- still a good player though. But I would hate to see him pull a Willie Mays and keep playing to the point that he embarrassed himself on the court.
