FuzzButt
Hello,I have a 4 port Belkin ONmiview SE 4 port KVM I bought a few years ago from compUSA and while it fit my needs at the time (actually just need 3 ports so I can quickly hook up a test system) but after purchasing the Klipsch ProMedia 4.1 speaker system over a year ago I have not had sound from the second PC. I had speakers from Altech Lansing with dual inputs but these only have 1 set of Front and Rear. I have hooked up both and there is a ground loop hum that is real annoying.Question is has anyone used the 2 or 4 port KVM's that also switch audio? If so are they worth the expense? I like the idea but the recabling and the fact that I cannot mount to the underside of my desk will make it another thing that sits on top of the desk. I guess the easiest way is to just buy a new pair of speakers for the second PC.Ideas?Chris
Peachy
I wish I could have a KVM that did audio. Belkin has a newer one that does. Unfortunately, I can't help you there; I bought my KVM last July and spent a pretty penny on it and am not looking to upgrading it.
nlinecomputers
I have a Belkin KVM Omniview. It works very well but it is a desktop kind of switchbox though it stands up right so it should be less room then a second set of speakers would be. greengeek
Plenty of info here on that: http://help.lockergnome.com/index.php?act=...&f=5&t=2568&hl=You can do it the easy (expensive) way with Belkin or the hard (fiddling with cables and adaptors etc. but cheap) way with Radio Shack or similar store.Joy
Marsden11
Why not use Remote Desktop in XP? Not only do you get a full screen high res desktop... you get the Clipboard and Sound! No need for those clunky KVMs anymore... You can run any audio-enabled application on your remote desktop and hear the audio output from speakers attached to the computer you’re working on. Get the client for all Windows OSes...This software package will install the client portion of Remote Desktop on any of the following operating systems: Windows 95, Windows 98 and 98 Second Edition, Windows Me, Windows NT® 4.0, or Windows 2000. Get the client here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/whi...us/msrdpcli.exe

The client only allows you to log into a Windows XP Professional or Windows 2000 Server. It won't help you if you're trying to use it to remotely use a Windows 9x or Windows XP Home/Windows 2000 Professional system.
nlinecomputers
Also doesn't help if your using a Linux box as one of the ports either. Sometimes you gotta have console access.

FuzzButt
Ya Plus the the other PC on the current KVM is my W2K box. Not my primary PC with XP Pro. I have used the remote desktop and it is real cool across a network but with another copy of Windows XP Pro at $199 it is cheaper to just buy the better KVM. Also the main application I run on the Win2K box is ATI Multimedia Center 7.1 used to capture TV shows as a PVR would. I would assume that the Remote desktop would just show the green screen and not the TV signal overlay that the Video card does on the fly.By the way the ElectronicsUSA link for a "Blank Box" that switches 2 Audio Sources is Electronics USA MK7 I'll think about this one.The other issue is the Klipsch ProMedia 4.1's have both Front and Rear Plugs. There is a ground loop issue if I plug in on PC on the Front and the other on the Rear port so I might actually need 2 of the MK7 switches to totally switch between the 2 PC's.Chris

Any app you run from the remote machine is visible on your desktop in resolutions up to 1600X1200... not to mention with sound. I think by the time you add the KVM with sound and all the cables... XP Pro is cheaper...
