cybormoron
I'm having problems with Iceweasel and Chromium. Google Plus not supported, says Iceweasel is to old. Chromium can't install extensions from the Chrome store. How can I get newer versions of these?

saturnian
cybormoron, are you running Debian Squeeze? I'm guessing that's the problem. I've got Stable running here but I'm using Google Chrome instead of their old Chromium version. I don't know how to get newer versions of Iceweasel or Chromium in Squeeze, and looks like neither one is in squeeze-backports. I have a newer Chromium running in Semplice Linux, which uses Debian Sid (Unstable) repos, and no problems installing extensions there. If you can stand to use Google Chrome instead of Chromium, you might want to install that instead. I change the default search engine to Duck Duck Go, though. Oh, and how are things in AA? That's where I grew up, and my siblings and parents still live up there. I don't get up that way much anymore, though. sunrat
For Debian stable, you can add the backports repository and install more recent packages from there. See http://wiki.debian.org/Backports

Guest LilBambi
I added the Google repos for Google Chrome in Debian Squeeze and then can just do: apt-get update // to get updated packages apt-get install google-chrome-stable // whether first time or upgrading (it knows to upgrade) and it gets it from google's repos I added Voila!! Guest LilBambi
NOTE: it did puke the first time I tried saying something about gawk, mesa tools not gonna do it. If that happens do the following: apt-get -f install // with no packages notated it will install the gawk, mesa tools etc. and all will be fine next time you do the: apt-get install google-chrome-stable I have not seen any issues with doing that. NOTE: one thing I have found though. Say cancel when it tries to integrate with the KDE Wallet! Or you will be having Google Chrome crashes for no apparent reason! cybormoron
Thanks folks. Sorry for my late reply. I've been pretty busy lately and I've been hesitating about putting Google's repo on my computer. I did just get it done though and it seems to work fine. Haven't tried installing any extensions yet. I guess I can just disable the Google repo for peace of mind. Thanks Fran, I guess that's the only thing I can do. saturnian Oh, and how are things in AA? The university just keeps building and building. The stadium keeps getting higher and higher addons. Downtown A2 is on a building boom also. Underground parking structures, high rise student apartments, etc. The Stadium Blvd bridge is finally being rebuilt. Currently shutdown and what a traffic detour mess that is. By the way folks, this town is known as "Ace Deuce" or "A Squared" A2. Yea, there's a lot of alkys around also. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=ace%20deuce http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=a2
Guest LilBambi
Sure you can disable the repos (comment them out) and just uncomment them when you want to check. I wonder though, whether you will be able to keep your extensions (which you install within Chrome like any other OS BTW) up to date since they would likely get those through the repo too? Glad it worked well for you!
