Guest LilBambi
Mac OS X – Show / Hide Hidden Files in Finder Show: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE killall Finder Hide: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE killall Finder The article also shows how to do a script to toggle between the two and screenshots. You can also use programs like Main Menu and other utility programs like free TinkerTool. NOTE: TinkerTool can also add a 'Quit Finder' item on the Finder Menu. ross549
wow! the tinkle tool looks cool! lol - says definitely not an app, not available in the app store. i kinda thought apple stuff couldn't be ... distributed(?) w/o some kinda apple approval thingy. Nope. Apple has not restricted programs on OSX in any way. Adam
Guest LilBambi
And hope they never do. That would be extremely restrictive and then more of us would have jailbroken Macs LOL! That would be very unwise of them. Having Mountain Lion set to ONLY allow approved apps is bad enough, but at least that can be changed. Guest LilBambi
However, they have placed a setting in Mountain Lion by default to only allow Mac App Store and certain designated developers; there are also settings for Mac Store only and all programs ... this is called " Gatekeeper". As I say, Microsoft also did something similar with data execution protection (DEP): Which programs does DEP monitor? DEP automatically monitors essential Windows programs and services. You can increase your protection by having DEP monitor all programs. To increase DEP protection, see Change Data Execution Prevention settings. They even have/had DEP in Office 2010. They do also have it in Windows 8 and had it in Windows 7, and Vista. Click the image to go to the article on disabling DEP in Windows 8.
