You can download it from herehttp://www.majorgeek...wnload4323.htmlit's a wee bit smaller; it excludes a few things. Let me check what they are.

So...is this the one to use if you are installing on only one computer?I know it mentions to visit the Windows Update site...but the computer in question is still on dial-up.

It doesn't really matter if you use Windows Update or do the manual download - the results will be the same.  The only reason Microsoft distinguishes the full download from the WU version is that they'd rather have the "average" 1-computer family downloading the 60-70MBs via WU rather than have everybody in the world downloading the full SP.That said, with a dial-up computer, I'd get to another PC with a broadband connection, download the full SP, burn it to a CD and install it on the dial-up computer.Kevin

That is what I'm doing...I just wanted to make sure I got the correct one.Or will either work for me?

Either will *normally* work. Normal in Microsoft terms depends on what is the state of your system prior to downloading and installing a behemoth service pack such as SP2 or SP3.I've been using (and promoting the use of) the network install for anyone not getting the warning via WU/MU. But that's me... :whistling: The network file size is the one you want if you are going to slipstream a copy with your XP install for future needs. Maybe MS will be offering a free SP3 CD like they did for SP2 ?I just got the 'Notify' warning via the yellow shield in the systray, and will create a manual restore point before giving it a go. I know that a restore point will be made in the install process, but...just to be on the safe side... :)

I got the warning thru' the yellow shield in systray to install SP3 yesterday and I clicked the download button but the icon got disappeared from the tray. I waited for another one hour thinking that its getting downloaded in the background but nothing happened. So I went to Windows update site but the only option their was to install WGA....Then I found the link in MS website. I got it installed without any trouble. The only difference I see is explorer is bit too slow in listing files.

I went looking for trouble: SP3 was offered on Windows Update with a warning not to download any other patch til SP3 installed. For a notional, it said, 66Mb, it took a long while to download and install on my laptop. Haven't seen many changes; should I expect many?

Downloaded and saved from MS download site, same as the top link in Nick's post above. Download 11min, install about 25, including reboot. No problems at all, in fact, XP may possibly be a little faster. Also using Avast Home, CFP 3, Threatfire, Comodo Memory Firewall, Secunia PSI, all OK.
