zox
I don't have XP at hand at the moment (from top of my head) but you can right click any item in your favorites and select "sort by.."When I get home tonight I'll actually check this. Scot
Hi, I have a long list of favorites, in Internet Explorer, in various files but cannot find a way to make the list go in decending order. Is this possible? Not quite sure what you mean by "descending order." But ... run Internet Explorer. Open Favorites menu. Right-click any blank area of the open menu. Choose "Sort by Name."That what you mean? Oops, Zox. I just realized you're suggesting the same thing. Great minds.-- Scot Edited March 20, 2003 by scot
Guest LilBambi
Speaking of sorting methods ... Sorting by name (at least in Win98se) is A-Z and generally that works great. However, there are certain sites that I like to be at the top ... at all times ... when I resort by name after the addition of more links I found that the following method keeps my 'important' links at the top of the any Favorites folder. Here it is:Put a "! " (sans quotes) at the beginning of any entry that you want to show up at the top of the list. Semi important? "!! " Works nicely and will keep them at the top even after resorting. Scot
I used to use Fran's method -- a good one. And I still use that method to control the appearance of mailbox folders in my email package (Eudora). But what I've come to prefer over time is to control the sort order of Favorites in IE manually. In other words, I just drag and drop them indivudual favorites or folders of favorites up or down the menu. They stay where you place them. When you're moving a folder of favorites, you may need to wait until the folder has opened fully before trying to move it.-- Scot
Stryder
I set up my favorites this way. I use the "Links" bar to make specific folders and organize my favorites. Here is a screenshot: http://home.indy.rr.com/stg/Favorites.jpgEach Folder is labeled by category. Just click on a folder and a window pops down with the favs that are in that folder. Works great.
Guest LilBambi
Scot --That's funny, I used to do it the way you are doing it now...but then I would forget and sort them to find something in my myriad of favorites and end up messing up my sorting structure. So I went back to the ! thing :)Stryder --I like that ... I have the Links bar customized too but only for links themselves that I need to get to frequently, haven't done it with folders. Nice idea. zox
As long as we help someone, all is cool.Stryder, my man, I have the same setup with my Phoenix.I used to have it on IE at the time when I used IE.I find it the best way to use favorites.I've seen so many "tweaks" that help you get rid of "Links" in IE to my horror
