brucekrymow
Firebird 0.6.1 does not play '.mid' or '.wma' files. Plays '.wav' & '.mp3' fine. Is there a setting for each file type?
SonicDragon
In which way do you mean? Like, they won't play if you embed them in your HTML or they won't play if they click to listen to a file?
brucekrymow
Hi, Sonic ~Regular HTML web pages. The same page will play in IE and Avant, but not w/ da 'bird.
epp_b
I'm thinking there's probably nothing you can do about it (Firebird simply doesn't support those media formats embeded into HTML documents).MP3 and WAV are standard formats. WMA is a Microsoft format (Windows Media Player Audio), so it's understandable why Firebird may not support it. But I would expect it to support MIDI's.And since Avant is just an IE variant, and uses the MSIE HTML Engine, it's basically an IE clone with pop-up control and tabbed browsing, so it will support whatever MSIE supports. There is no reason for 'bird not to support MIDI as they are a standard and have been around for some time. Also, they played before in version 0.6, so this does not follow. SonicDragon
The only reason that i can think of that firebird wouldn't support midi and wma is that they may have to pay a licence fee to include them in their program. Sort of like how you can't use .gif is GIMP right?
GolfProRM
I know there's a MIDI plugin... need to go find it though... I think there's a wav one too... I'll post back tonight with my findings... Might want to do a search here in the forums as I posted some links in a previous thread. I'm pretty sure it's here in the Firebird forum, but I don't have time to look right now. Gus K
If you install the TTLO extension, look under "More options" and go to MIME types. Set up new ones to handle the .mid and .wma files.
brucekrymow
Hi, Gus & Ryan ~Sorry I haven't replied sooner....e-mail notification still working only half the time. Thanks! Found the TTLO and will try it out.
brucekrymow
Have TTLO d/l and installed, but am not sure what to fill in the respective fields for '.wma'; '.mid' is already in there, but it still does not play. There are no apparent settings to have the browser play, only open with application or save to disk.Anyone familiar with setting these up? Gus K
Hmm..... maybe you could copy the npdsplay.dll and npwmsdrm.dll's from Media player's folder into your Firebird plug-ins folder. Couldn't find a mid playing site to test it.
