V.T. Eric Layton
Umm... now that I've just decided to roll over and play dead as Google takes over the world, I thought it would be nice to revive my Gmail account to use to log in to Google sites like Youtube, Blogger, etc. The account is still active. It's just set to FWD all incoming to my Yahoo account. I turned off the FWDing last night, but can't seem to get Gmail to work with Thunderbird like it always used to before. I've tried POP and IMAP. Both give me the same "incorrect username/password error." However, the username and password combination work fine on the web interface? Anyone else using Gmail with Thunderbird? If so, what are you server settings? Thanks.
Robert
Is your account setup for two-step verification? That will stop TB. But you can also get a second password for TB, or a separate password for every device you use that is simple one-step. If you only have a simple one-step G account then it's probably just a setting miss-configured in TB. Mine: imap.googlemail.com username@gmail.com Port993 SSL/TLS Normal password Outgoing: smtp.googlemail.com Port465 username@gmail.com Normal password SSL/TLS Edited September 8, 2014 by Robert
V.T. Eric Layton
Thanks, Robert. I figured it out... This was the problem I was having: https://support.goog.../answer/6010255 Google doesn't like Thunderbird; claims it is an insecure device. Oh, well... Edited September 8, 2014 by V.T. V.T. Eric Layton
Why is it that Google reminds me so much of Umbrella Corp?
Guest LilBambi
You can also create application specific passwords for GMail which I did for Thunderbird. 'Application-specific password required'.
