Microsoft Security Advisory 3010060 with Fix it Solution

Recommended Posts

Microsoft released Security Advisory 3010060 which relates to a vulnerability affecting all supported releases of Microsoft Windows, excluding Windows Server 2003. The vulnerability could allow remote code execution if a user opens a specially crafted Microsoft Office file that contains an OLE object. Microsoft is aware of limited, targeted attacks.

Direct download links of the Microsoft Fix it Solution are available in my blog post, Microsoft Security Advisory 3010060 with Fixit Solution, or KB 3010060.

Corrine, is this a fixit for Windows or the Office application? I tried it twice on a win 7 pro laptop without Office and got a message that the fixit didn't apply to my OS or application.

I don't have Office installed on all computers but I do have viewers installed for doc/docx and xls/xlsx. I was wondering if I had a viewer installed for PowerPoint, if the fix was needed? I'm not about to install a PowerPoint viewer.

I think I received exactly one power point presentation in all my years of computing and I moved that to a computer that had Office so we could view it.

Now to go fix all the computers that have Office installed. (Not all have the Powerpoint module).

Someone who does not have Office installed but has the viewer for Power Point posted elsewhere that they were told the Fix it did not apply.

Thanks Corrine. Good to know.

My husband is very good about not opening attachments; I'm the one he calls to see if it should be opened. I don't want to wreck his computers by clicking on something I think might be safe. :P
