V.T. Eric Layton
Well, phooey! Just when I was enjoying my FF and had it all set up the way I like it, it seems to have developed some clunky intermittent slowdowns and CPU hogging. My first guess? A doo-doo extension. One nice thing about Chrome/Chromium is that built-in task manager that allows you to see what individual issues are clogging up the works. FF does not have that capability, though. So, I start it from the command line to watch for error messages while monitoring FF resource usage Slackware's task manager. It seems that a new update of LastPass is causing some issues. Also, another extension that I had installed called "Disconnect" was generating errors constantly in the terminal. So, here's what I had to do... I removed LastPass and deleted my accounts completely from their site. I removed Xmarks (owned by LastPass) and deleted those accounts. I set Firefox to use its native password management and bookmark sync. I removed the Disconnect extension. I added all my everyday-use passwords (forums, boards, other misc. sites) to FF's password manager. Results? A much speedier less congested Firefox. I used gFTP to copy my FF Profile to my office system and my workshop system. Oh, and I downgraded to the appropriate ESD FF version (45.9.0) for my version of Slackware (14.1). I had been running an ESD version (52.x) from the Slackware 14.2 repos. All's well now, I guess...
raymac46
I have noticed that Firefox doesn't play all that nicely with Linux and password managers. Right now the latest FF seems to be incompatible with Roboform Lite - the Linux vesrion of that password manager. It just disappeared after the latest upgrade. V.T. Eric Layton
Meh... whaddya' gonna' do? Gotta' have a browser. IE won't cut it. Others are OK, but lack many of the features that I want. Some, like Chrome/chromium won't even run on my system anymore. Guess I'm stuck with FF.
abarbarian
I have noticed that Firefox doesn't play all that nicely with Linux and password managers. Right now the latest FF seems to be incompatible with Roboform Lite - the Linux vesrion of that password manager. It just disappeared after the latest upgrade. Roboform Lite worked fine in MX-15 but did not on MX-16 it was the newer FF that caused the problem. Rf not working was quite a shock as it had all my passwords and it seems I did not make a backup. Luckily I had not deleted or updated FF in MX-15 so all is well and I am now using KeePass with a backup made.
V.T. Eric Layton
I should have specified that the trouble I was having with FF was ONLY on my ericsbane06 system. It's fine on my main system (ericsbane07). So, my solution, after weeks or piddling around trying to find out what's causing FF's issues, was to wipe my Slackware 14.1 on ericsbane06 and install the current version (14.2) on this machine. I'm adjusting, tweaking, setting-up, customizing right now, actually. I think I'll leave it pretty vanilla, though. I don't do anything on that office desk system except online banking once or twice a month. I don't need all the fancy customizations and addon apps that I have on the main system. I will sync FF to my cloud, though, so it'll have the exact same set up as before (same as ericsbane07 and ericsshop02-wifi). We'll see how it goes at that point. V.T. Eric Layton
OK, my very vanilla new installation of Slackware 14.2 on ericsbane06 is all set up and running. Firefox seems to be behaving well. I have no clue what its problem was on the previous 14.1 installation. Well, that's in the past. Moving on now...
