GolfProRM
Okay... For anyone who's had trouble figuring out what to do with Firebird since it doesn't "magically install," there's a great way to solve that problem. Even for those of you who have it all figured out, but would like to streamline the process, I've got the solution! The guys at mozdev.org just released the Mozilla Firebird WebInstaller beta 8! Unlike the one that didn't work (see other thread that was actually beta 7), this one works quite well! The actual Installer is under 100k, and what it does is connect to the ftp server and the lasest build folder and download the latest build... It then installs it and gives you the option to add start menu/quicklaunch/desktop icons if you'd like (don't have to if you don't want). Here are some of the features of the installer: User-friendly interface Smaller file to download If you update Mozilla Firebird with the installer, it remembers where you installed your previous version Warns the user if he tries to install an older (or the same) build than the one currently installed Possibility to add shortcut icons to the desktop, the Quicklaunch folder or the Start menu Allows easier installation of the Java Runtime Environment and of the Macromedia Flash, Macromedia Shockwave and RealOne plugins. Uninstaller (which can remove your Mozilla Firebird profiles too) I just ran it on my WinXP machine (then VNC'ed back to my WinME machine at work and did it too)... Both worked exceptionally well!!! The neat thing is that if you're a big fan of the nightly builds, all you have to do is re-run the same program and it'll download the new version! Howto if you're still running a version of Firebird that is in a phoenix folder: 1. Download the installer here.2. Close Firebird.3. Browse to your phoenix folder and delete it.4. Run the installer.5. That's it!Howto if you're running a version that's called MozillaFirebird: 1. Download the installer here.2. Close Firebird.3. Run the installer, making sure to set the install path to the location of your previous version.4. That's it!Once you've installed Mozilla Firebird using the installer, the installer will remember the install path, so you won't have to change that again! GolfProRM
NOTE!!! The location of the nightly build files changed today, so if you're using the webupdater, you need to re-download the webinstaller as they had to make some changes to it to reflect the location change... You can find the link to the webinstaller in the above post
GolfProRM
With the official release of MozillaFirebird 0.6, Mozdev.org has released a new installer specific to this release. You can download it here
teacher
I just installed the one from your first message. Do I need to do anything before installing this one? When I did that one, it looked like it reloaded all of Firebird even though I had just done a new download and cleaned out all the old versions. GolfProRM
If you ran the latest build from the first link, you're fine as it's the exact same build... the new installer won't check for latest builds as it's specifically for the milestone build... might be handy to download this installer for future use (reinstalls)
