Hedon James is in the house...

For those who weren't in the thread that provides the back story, my "true identity" has been discovered by VT, Bruno's ATL "super google-sleuth" (he, he, he!), thereby leading me to use the suggested avatar from my long since abandoned MySpace account. Also, some folks have indicated that they'd like to hear those MySpace tunes, but don't want to join MySpace just to hear 'em. I agree...MySpace was supposed to make it easier to share music with interested parties, not to introduce another obstacle.

So, for those who are interested, I'm happy to share them. FWIW, these are MY songs and I own the copyright(s), so no worries to the forum owners' about receiving takedown requests. I'm not a professional musician and I have nothing to sell. I am a music hobbyist who enjoys making music, playing music, recording music, and sharing the music I've created. And wasn't that the whole spirit of the music business before corporate greed corrupted it? If you like what I've done, kudos to your good taste in music, and a heartfelt thank you...feel free to download 'em and load to your music players, gratis! If you don't like it, keep your opinions to yourself, as no one cares and it will change nothing...move along...nothing else for you to see here!

In all seriousness though, thanks for listening. I hope you enjoy, but everyone is different; I can't stand to listen to some genres of music, and I'm certain fans of those genres can't stand mine either. No worries...it's all good, as that's the way it's supposed to be!

I'm hoping these links will bypass the "sign in" or "sign up" process, but if it doesn't I'll gladly upload MP3 files from my hard drive. If only someone can tell a brutha how to do THAT?!

COOL! Good stuff, too! I like Through These Eyes and Bleed the best.

Are you guys still together and playing? I'm always impressed with anyone with musical talent. I have NONE at all. There's no art in me. I'm totally left brained. :(

VT, thank you for the compliments! Truth be told, I'm not sure how much artistic "talent" I possess, but it feels good to get it out and as a teenager, I honestly thought this was the best way to meet beautiful women! I remember seeing Ted Nugent on MTV (back when they played Music Videos?!!!) and he said something to the effect "Dudes get into Rock'N'Roll to meet hot chicks and you end up learning to play. But not me...I got into Rock'N'Roll with full intentions of contributing to the musical integrity of mankind. But I learned to adapt!" That pretty much summed up MY outlook, so Ted Nugent was an early influence.

But the answer to your question is "NO", we don't play out anymore. Musicians can be a flaky bunch, and it was all I could do to keep that project together long enough to finish recording in the studio. The drummer disappeared almost as soon as the drum tracks were finished; he did some back-up vocals on some songs, but was never available after that. He had lost his license and I was picking him up 2-3 nights per week and taking him to the studio. Eventually he quit answering the door when I knocked, although I could hear him inside. He didn't even bother to come to photo-shoots for album art! The bass player was awesome to work with, but he was clear from the beginning that his other band was his main priority, although he was willing to do a studio project with us. The singer's marriage was falling apart and this album was a welcome refuge from that tension, but once the album was done, he wanted to work on his inner self. Can't fault him for that. And I had met an amazing woman who I wanted to spend more time with, so it fractured pretty quickly, even though we were still in the studio. The recording engineer/mixer, the singer and I continued to work on this for another month or two after everyone else disappeared. Consequently, there's some "rough edges" we just couldn't address with the limited time we had left. Looking back, I'm kind of amazed we even got it done?! All I can say is that the rumors and stories of delays & decadence in the recording studio...apparently they're all true!

So I've slowly built a recording studio in my own basement. And while I consider myself a guitar player, I can also play bass and drums, so I'm no longer a slave to a ticking studio clock and flaky musicians who can't be bothered with a schedule. Now, the drum tracks are GOING TO BE RECORDED on the pre-determined night; the only question is who will actually play the kit and how many takes will we need? The downside is that it's almost always me going it alone. And it takes A LOT longer for 1 guy to do EVERYTHING. So I've adopted the Boston method....1 new album every 10 years, +/-, ha ha ha!

I'll try to provide the rest of that Alter Ego album, The Way I Am, but I'll have to experiment a little. Now that we've successfully circumvented the MySpace hurdle, perhaps we can jailbreak the Ubuntu1 credentials? I've uploaded the whole album to my Ubuntu1 account and shared the folder. Let's see if you can access additional tunes without signing up for an Ubuntu1 account? Individual links:

Well, one of my philosophical observations in this life is that performers of any genre; acting, music, the stage, etc. are a pretty whacked out bunch. Present company possibly excluded. ;) That being said, as an amateur wordsmith with delusions of future publishing contracts and dump trucks full of $$$, I can say that your achievement of an actual musical album is something of which you ought to be very proud, regardless of your humble attitude about it here. I think you done good! :w00t:

Hey, I AM proud of it, or I wouldn't share it! I'm just glad others enjoy it too! I've met a few of my rock star idols, and I have many friends in bands, and I always look forward to hearing their latest releases. An album is just a musical "snapshot" of a certain period or event in your life. But instead of pictures to look at, there are songs to listen to. Sometimes a song REALLY resonates in my life experience, and maybe even the whole album.

I get a kick out of telling Ronnie Younkins (former Kix guitarist, current Blues Vulture guitars/vocals) how much I dig 'Smokescreen' and 'Given Up On You'; telling Steve Whiteman (former Kix and current Funny Money vocalist) how much I like 'Women'; telling my friend Chris (lead singer for Steel) how much I like 'Black & Blue' and 'Fading Memories'; or telling my friends in Ghost of War how much I like 'Fire', 'She', and their version of 'We're An American Band'. They light up and express true appreciation that you like their creation. The Alter Ego singer lit up the entire room with his smile when I told him "Jeff, you NAILED that screaming intro to Uncle Sam...you're in the top 3 of best rock'n'roll screams, EVER!" Every artist creates for themselves, but the enjoyment transcends a whole other level when a complete stranger validates it. Dude, I love your song...it KICKS ASS!

You call me humble. Okay, thank you for that, I'll take it! But I'm typically the weird guy in the group who sees the world in ways no one else does and thinks things no one else had considered. I'm used to being the 'lone wolf', so I'd just describe myself as grateful that someone else enjoyed my creation too. Enjoy...I'll try to post more.

That is a VERY COOL way to look at it.

Well, don't feel too awfully alone in this. There are quite a few of us around like this. We tend to gravitate toward one another too, I've noticed. You should stop by my Cabin In the Woods. It's a private (closed) forum, but you'd get along will with the core group there. Some folks from here are members there, too... Temmu, SecurityBreach, LilBambi, etc. Birds of a feather flock... well, you know what I mean. ;)

If you're interested in joining the nuts at the Cabin, drop me an email with the email address you want to use and a user name. I'll create you a member account and send you the info.
