Muktware - Your opinion my Job

Reynaldo

Recommended Posts

Well, my name is Reynaldo, you can call me Rey.

The thing is some weeks ago i was looking through G+ and saw this muktware post, i went in and immediately saw a job offer, they would pay like $2 for article, and $5 per article if i wrote more than 5 per day.

The thing is, I'm ending college here on Dominican Republic on Mathematics with statistics and actuary concentration and it's really hard to find a job just because people here like to abuse professionals and mostly don't even know the importance of a mathematician.

I could dedicate 8 hours daily to write articles about linux and win:

5 (US dollars) * 10 (ten articles per day) * (7 days) * (4 weeks) * (43 Pesos (converting from dollars to dominican peso)) = 60,200 Dominican Peso

That's around 1400$ US dollars. An average professional with bachelors here wins less than that.. i suppose that if i use a card like payoneer and paypal to take my money out i'll loose around 5% or at least 10%.. this is really interesting offer to me..

Do you think i should do it? What linux topics do you think i could write so much about daily? just give me your opinions

Well, I checked out their jobs@muktware link. There doesn't seem to be any risk involved for the writer other than wasting his time.

There are many pay-to-write blog style sites on the Internet covering many different topics. The main goal of most of these sites is to get someone to write interesting articles to attract readers to the site, thereby increasing hit count and possible advertisement revenue. It's perfectly legit, but it isn't as easy as it sounds for you to make money at it.

First, you have to write A LOT (70 articles a week by your math) to make the money you're talking about here. That's a lot of writing, Rey. I couldn't write ten articles a day for my blog... not even for one day. Even if you could write about every possible aspect of Linux, you'd soon run out of topics. You'd be bored to death. Your articles would diminish in quality quickly.

Let's say you write 500 word articles on average. That would be 5000 words a day. The typical page in a hard cover novel has about 250 words on it. That means to write your ten articles a day, you'd be writing the equivalent of about 20 pages of a novel... every day. If you did this for 20 days, you'd have a 400 page novel typed and ready to send to your publisher. No novelist writes a complete book in 20 days. You see what I mean about it being A LOT of writing?

I'm not saying to not try this. I'm just saying that you have to set more realistic goals... one article a day; and even that will be difficult. Believe me. I know. I'd love to be able to post an article a day on my own blogs. That would be just grand. When I first started blogging for Chris Pirillo's LockerGnome site a few years back, my goal was one article a day. I only kept that pace up for about three weeks. You start scraping the bottom of the barrel for material to write about really quickly. Maybe you'll be better at that than I was.

Give it a try. Can't hurt. Won't cost you nothing but your time.

Good luck!

Oh, and post us some links when your articles appear at Muktware. We''ll all go over there and read them.

====

Just for reference, this post was about 403 words. Most of the articles at Muktware seem to be quite a bit longer than 500 words. :(

Not bad, Rey! Of course you wouldn't need to write that many all the time.

I would start out with two or three a day and see how that works for you and that you can still keep up with your work at school. Ad more as seems reasonable.

That's my suggestion.

Thanks alot bambi and Eric.

Eric's analysis is real. I've got some articles already there:

Anyway, i'll do that as you guy says, its the most reasonable, 1 article per day or at least per 2 days meanwhile i'll keep looking a real life job.

Good stuff, Reynaldo! Have fun with it. $ is wonderful, but having fun making it is even better. :)

BTW the owner of muktware is a friend of mine:

COOL! So that means the Nocturnal Slacker and temmu the lower case are not your only famous online friends, huh? I'll try not to be jealous. Can't speak for temmu, though. ;)

Play it by ear. You may have weeks with more and weeks with less. If you keep your priorities in line (school first right?), you will still be able to pick up some dinner money at the very least and maybe some money to have some fun on the side too at times.

Nice articles! I look forward to reading more!

Exactly. Plus this guy is somewhat famous since he has interviewed Linus a few times as well as Stallman and others.
