HDMI sound in Win7

I have a win 7 box that I use primarily for streaming. I is connected to the monitor via an HDMI cable. But it shares the monitor with other deivices. The problem I have is that when I switch to another device and then back, I lose the sound. I have to logoff and back on to regain sound.

it shares the monitor with other devices.
Not clear on whether the monitor is used by more than the PC or the PC has other display options as well as that particular monitor.

How do you share the other devices? mechanical switch? software switch?

The monitor is shared. Not the Win7 PC. The monitor has 3 HDMI, 1VGA and 2 AV inputs. Currently, is connected as the only monitor on the Win 7 PC, the secondary monitor on a Mint 17 box, and the main on an Odroid c1. The monitor also works as a stand alone TV and I switch between modes using its remote. Right now I can chose HDMI1,2 or 3 or TV. If I switch from HDMI1 (Win 7 PC) to the TV or other HDMI inputs and then back to the PC, there is a red X on the speaker icon and when I hover over the icon the message box says no speakers are plugged in. I have to logoff/on or reboot to get it working again.

Hello,

Latest drivers installed for video card and sound card?

Does another sound source+destination become the default one on the PC when cycle the monitor to a different device?

What happens if you unplug/replug the HDMI cable between the PC and monitor?

Does the same thing happen if you hibernate or sleep the computer?

Hello,

Perhaps the following program will help: AVR Audio Guard. It appears to be designed to solve a problem with buggy HDMI audio support.

I have not tried the program myself so cannot vouch for its effectiveness, but perhaps it will work for you. As always, the usual caveats apply (backup before installing, not responsible if it turns your system into a pile of cinders, etc.).
