Have you tried updating the drivers in Device Manager, after first trying a system restore ?
Thanks for the suggestion I have used the driver update but had completely forgotten about restore. I restored but didn't help. thanks again

Just to clarify, when you say "I have lost my system sounds" do you mean the sounds associated with the windows events? Do you hear sound when you play CDs? Do you hear sound on web pages? This is what Kelly's Korner advises:1. TweakUI/General/Beep on errors (verify that the box is checked). http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/dow...s/powertoys.asp 2. Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key: HKEY_USERS. If it doesn't have a Data entry in the right pane that reads: (value not set), double click (Default) and delete it. If it does, check your HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21 keys for the same. 3. http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htmLook at both entries on line 6 of that page4. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...b;EN-US;q307918

If you looked in device manager and there doesn't appear to be a problem with the sound card, maybe it has died. This error code 0x00000000 (error code) really doesn't say anything because it gives all zeros. It may be worth it to just get another sound card.

Hello,Have you reinstalled the device drivers for your Creative Labs SoundBlaster Live! series sound card with a copy freshly downloaded from Creative Lab's web site? If so, did that make any difference?Regards,Aryeh Goretsky

AG, Creative is not the best site to get drivers. The only way to get a driver is to ask on the forum and hope that some kind person has the same card and uploads the file. I looked around to see if I could find a driver for the WDM series. I couldn't find anything.

Hello,Really? I have not had much difficulty getting drivers for Creative's sound cards from the support section of their web site. At the most, it involved opening up the computer to get a specific model name or number off a card. Regards,Aryeh Goretsky

Usually the drivers I'm searching for are for older cards and I get this.

Please note that the product you have selected has been classified as "End of Service Life"
After nothing shows up in the archives, I head over to the forum. Thankfully I've managed to get help there. (Ironically for one old card, linux used it without searching for anything; I had trouble getting windows to use it until I got the proper driver).I suspect whosur isn't located in the US because the WDM series isn't listed as an option for me. He may have much better success searching than I've had. Edited by zlim
