Ryan007 means start your mail program Evolution, point your mouse at ¨tools¨ from the menu-bar and look for Pilot settings. :DI´m sure you´re bashing your head on the monitor right now ! :P :P :P Bruno

Ahh... Evolution... doh! Never use it... I'll see if it has anything to do with the settings though...Is there something I need to do to get the USB to recognize the cradle?

I have a Palm Zire....one of the cheap-o versions, not the new one with the camera. (Drool)Anyhoo.....I've been trying to get it to work in Red Hat 9 and having such a tough time. I can only get it to recognize the /dev entry under the root account. So I'll add my stories here in case something is similar to your situation.I was poking at the palm through KPilot. I'm not sure if M'drake comes with that package or not, but RH 9 did.

I have Palm Vx, and I plan to get it to work with my infared port.. I always use that port to synchronize anyway.. Now it would be cool if Palm supports Bluetooth lol

Bruno... you said linux was "plug and pray", but looking in my /dev folder, I can't seem to find anything usb (i.e. ttyUSB1)... I need to figure out how to get this to work, and then all I have to do is make a link called /dev/pilot to wherever the USB dev is at... Then it should work... am I missing something to get the USB to work?

Hmm... there's a /dev/usb folder, but there's nothing in it... don't know if this has anything to do with it or not...Also, I installed usbview, and it says that nothing's connected to the USB ports... if I press the hotsync button, and refresh usbview, it shows an unknown device.... If I click configure, it gives me two things to look at: /proc/bus/usb/devices or /proc/bus/usb/driversI browsed to the usb folder, and noticed that both the drivers and devices files are empty documents... just some more info for anybody searching... I'm playing with stuff trying to find anything... I also need to reboot...

We're nowhere... can't seem to figure out this USB thing... Everything I've read says the usb should just work with my kernel...

Oi... Thanks for the google tip Bruno...Think I found the problem

Unfortunately the M500/M505 USB doesn't yet work on Linux. The actualpalm<->linux link used by most of the GUI tools is a command line +library package called pilot-link. From what I hear Palm are beingdifficult and won't tell the guys who maintain pilot-link how the M500USB link works, so they are trying to reverse engineer it. The USBlink for the handspring machines works, so it ought to be possibleonce they figure it out. E-Mail Palm and complain to them about it,perhaps if enough people do they will change their mind.
Oh well... guess I can't do it :(Will have to keep booting into Winblows then (at least 2x per week)

That is a real BUMMER Ryan ! After all the searching we did !Well at least it will give you an excuse to see good ´ol windows again from time to time ! So it won´t get rusty. ( you can always import the files from windows )After all you have to keep up with both OS´ses ! Would not want you to loose all your knowledge, would we ? B) Bruno

Yeah, I suppose you're right... gotta keep my windows knowledge fresh...P.S. I recall you wanting to do a shutdown -r now as your regular user... in Mandrake 9.1 the commands reboot and halt work instead of shutdown :)They're getting more "user" friendly B)
