Corrine
From WinPatrol 2012 Upgrade: Version 24.6 One of the major complaints with the last versions of WinPatrol has been the option to automatically run WinPatrol on startup. We narrowed down the code where Windows 64 was redirecting the location used to auto run WinPatrol. The checkbox found in the Options tab will now maintain its status as it always has. This "Automatically run WinPatrol..." option controls the small monitor component of WinPatrol that detects changes without slowing you down. Most people who had problems will be happy that Scotty will always on patrol again. Many others use the WinPatrol Explorer tabbed interface but have other programs they prefer as a heuristic monitor. This will work tor them as well A number of XP users had reported problems which have been tracked down to the use of newer development tools. While our only XP machine won't accept the SP3 update our XP SP3 emulator is now much happier with this new version. I'll continue to work with any XP SP3 users who report problems. I had also neglected special features available to Windows 64 bit XP users. This configuration is apparently more popular than our stats indicated. My goal continues to try supporting every version of Windows available with a single code base. Next stop Windows 8!

frapper
I noticed a new item (one I hadn't noted before) on the Options tab. It was automatically checked. "Share real-time cloud choices". I looked on the WP Help page but it's not there.
Corrine
I believe that it was officially added in WinPatrol 2011. Here's a post about it: Bits from Bill: WinPatrol Cloud Edition Public Beta. I've found that not every file I check in the WInPatrol Knowledge Base has "cloud" information as shown in the example in Bill's post. frapper
Sounds worthwhile. Thanks Corrine. Looks like I'm only a year and a half behind the curve.
zlim
I emailed BillP to ask what share real-time cloud choices meant because it is not explained on his website. Here is part of his reply to me: Our version of the cloud does notaffect regular use of WinPatrol. None of your software or data is running or stored remotely. When you request PLUS Info you'll see data that indicates how often someone accepts or denies a program to be on their startup list. This data is collected when someone gets an alert or removes a Startup Program. The idea is to help users decide if they want to keep a program based partly on the decision of others. So, suppose you remove QTTask.exe from your list of Startup Programs. If the cloud box is checked, a small message is sent to our server that adds 1 to the QTTask.exe remove count. This message doesn't include any private information other than your choice nay or yay and the filename. All the occurs is a number is incremented. It's considered cloud information because it is stored remotely and shared equally but isn't what typically is considering running in a cloud. As a PLUS user you'll still have access to this data even if you don't participate by checking the box. I really do need to spent some time updating our documentation. I appreciate the nudge. Thanks again, Bill Pytlovany
