Cycling electrickery ??

Was thinking of taking up cycling again. So I started to have a looksee at what was on the market. Why A=later.

As me legs are shot and I am an old git I thought about bikes with some assistance.Came across this which is very close to where I live.

http://www.50cycles.com/electric-bikes/used-ebikes/2014_ktm_macina_cross.html#

An this which l like a lot, partly for the belt drive. The web site only has sketchy info but the downloadable brochure has a great deal more info.

An I am also interested in folding bikes,

This seems a steal but I may be too tall and too heavy,

This is thirty pounds more expensive,

An this is not folding but is quite neat, I especially like the shaft drive, cool.

Ouch, that first one looks nice but certainly pricey. Not familiar with folding bikes, so can't comment. I'm assuming they have reliable systems to ensure they don't fold when they aren't supposed to?

Everyone hates Walmart. I love it.

18 speed mountain bike $80/£52., free shipping.

I bought something similar over 15 years ago.Bought mine from a dodgy advert in a national newspaper. It is still working. However as I stated in the opening post I only work sort of.Hence the need for assistance with pedalling. :fish:

If you can't ride it in first gear you need a motorized scooter, which isn't cycling, it's narrowly avoiding death.

Oh I don't know. Me mum had one of these back in the early 60's and she is still here. I inherited it and rode it for a couple of years and I am mostly here.

If I had the cash I would buy this as they do around 100 miles per gallon and there is no tax or MOT needed as it is classed a s a classic. :breakfast:

look into hydrazine powered bikes. they're a blast!

Hmm too toxic for me.

I love the look of this new gem though.

A device which turns a push bike into an electric hybrid bicycle has been developed.

The Copenhagen Wheel can be attached to most bicycles and contains an onboard computer, battery, sensors and motor which respond to the rider's pedalling behaviour.

An accompanying app allows cyclists to control the level of power assistance, track their journey and share data with other users.

Unbeknown to me me mum had been putting aside loot that she felt she owed me for all the jobs large and small that I had done for her over the years. I kept on refusing to accept money from her as my income though small was pretty much the same as hers. I was glad to help out where I could as my way of paying her back for all the help she and pops have given me over the years. So it was quite a shock to find a tin in the wardrobe with rather a large amount of loot in it when we came to sort things out after she passed away. There was a touching note saying the loot was for me.

I had nearly enough loot to buy a e-bike until my car developed some rather expensive faults so this windfall legacy was very useful as I may be loosing my vehicle licence soon and I may need an alternative form of transport.

So in memory of me mum and pops I decided to buy,

http://www.50cycles....m-black.html#ts a lock,

http://www.50cycles....ke_pannier.html panniers,

http://www.50cycles....press_2_bk.html a carrier for the car (just in case I keep my licence),

http://www.50cycles....impulse_11.html an a e-bike.

I went for a test drive last week and was blown away by the performance of the bike. I rode up a hill that went 488 feet in 6.7 miles and did not even break a sweat, unbelievable.I would have struggled to walk up that hill and there is no way on earth that I could have ridden any ordinary bike up it.

Any ways I am of to pick up the e-bike today so by for now.

I do hope that car bike carrier works ok as the shop is 70 miles away.

My mother did the same thing. But not only did she set aside money for me but also for my husband for all the things he did for her too. It was an equal amount and very large! We didn't take anything from her for holidays, birthdays and anniversaries. I kept telling her to save her money for her old age.

She gave envelopes to us the day we moved her into an assisted living unit. (Mom was 91, falling and it wasn't safe for her to continue living alone more than an hour away from us in her home). We put the envelopes in a safe deposit box at the bank intending to put it into her checking or savings account when her money ran low at the assisted living unit. Sadly she died unexpectedly 11 months to the day at the age of 92. The money is still sitting in the safe deposit box. We shall probably use it when are ready to move to senior living accommodations.

That's one very nice bike.I wish you great joy with it'

The lad has a Dawes E-bike here and has put 6000km on it in roughly 4yrs. Using it for college mostly.

It has had four sets of tyres .6sets of brake blocks .A new ignition switch and as the rims are alloy the back one wore through and cracked. From I would say heavy usage. None of the replacement parts were too expensive .So considering the saving on petrol i recon that the investment saved us circa 1200/1500 euro for the time he used it.

As he has graduated and no longer has the daily commute he just went and bought himself a new Apollo Paradox,

The initial outlay for an e-bike seems a little on the expensive side .But in the overall picture of things you will save on fuel/transport costs..

Very wise investment Abarbarian .Just be careful on it and remember most other road users are idiots and you have to think for them also.

Happy Days

I got a £100 discount in the Bank Holiday Sale so the financial hit was not too bad.

Been on two wheels of one sort or another since I was knee high to a grasshopper Captn so I should be ok.

Managed 31 mph down hill yesterday after making it up the hill at 3.4 mph

Only had three trips so far as I am trying to condition me muscles without killing meself. Total trip mileage 32.9 miles at average speed of 10.5 mph, savings against using a car 5.25 Euro and saving the planet 9.67 kg CO2.

I'll bore you all to death with pics at some time but am still rather up to me neck in life at the moment.

Not many hills to slow me down in the flatlands of Tampa. There are a few inclines that I do avoid, though.

Going uphill regularly on a bicycle (peddling, not electrickery) will either kill you or get you in shape pretty quickly. :)

Well you have to pedal with the Kalkhoff as it is an assist not a twist and go so I should be in shape soon. Hope it is a nice manly shape :whistling:

Erik, you're a Viking, man, not some lily-livered wuss. Just twist the wires together and put some duct tape on 'em. Quitcher whining. ;)

Just kidding. I'd be pretty whizzed off, too, if I'd spent all that money and things were unraveling like that. :(

GIVE 'EM H3LL!

Hmm well I found the problem. Looks like the wires were not properly inserted in the plug. Fixed it I think as the front/back lights work. Now all I have to do is give it a road test.

Poor quality control and cheap and cheerful design.Ah well that is the modern way I guess. :whistling:
