Noonmid27
What is the difference between the 2. Does the /etc/mtab show only the partitions that are formatted and have been written to, the the fstab show everything.
ebrke
I believe mtab shows only those partitions actually mounted currently. fstab shows all your linux partitions and maybe others, if you've added anything manually. Someone else will probably be along to confirm or correct this!
Bruno
Hi NoonElizabeth is correct . . the mtab file is a dynamic file and shows the currently mounted divices . . . you should never make changes to that file yourself because the system updates it automatically. The fstab file is the config file that tells the system where to mount what device, here you can make changes ( careful though ! ) and tell the computer to mount a drive in a different place if you wish to.Have a read here: Fstab & Mtab Bruno
