Peachy
So, the web is abuzz with the news that Microsoft will release Windows XP Reloaded as an interim product before Longhorn. Basically, after SP2 is released, a new retail package for Windows XP will hit the shelves as well as a download update for existing XP users. This would be analogous to Windows 98 Second Edition, except SE wasn't released retail.
Peachy
Some more speculation on Reloaded. Even some commentary on 'Shorthorn' as some have come to call this interim release.
SonicDragon
As Jim said... lets hope it's not another Windows ME.
nlinecomputers
Actually Windows 98 SE was sold retail. It replaced the Win98 boxes on the shelf. Got a retail box sitting on my shelf now...has a red starburst with "Second Edition" on it.98SE was a very patched version of 98. It wasn't an interim edition at all. ME on the other hand was planned at the last minute when XP was delayed and it shows in the number of serious bugs in it. One hopes XP reloaded has a better fate..... b2cm
I suppose this XP reloaded will make hardware vendors happy (and in line)
Guest LilBambi
Yes, Win98SE was sold here in the US for sure on the retail market .. it was really the last and best of the Win9x OSes IMHO and I used them all.I sure do hope that XP Reloaded isn't as bad as ME ... I still think any ME owners should get a refund from Microsoft ... it wasn't worth a red letter cent.
