How to run Silverlight under Windows XP?

Webb

Recommended Posts

I use Windows XP SP3 and Pale Moon 24.7.2 and I need to install Silverlight.

Every version of Silverlight I have tried to install refuses to install.

What version will install and where can I download it?

Thanks.

Take your pick. There are 33 versions here

http://filehippo.com...rlight/history/

I removed it from the two XP computers in the house so I'm not sure what version was installed.

I'll fire up my XP desktop later and perhaps looking through update history, I can figure out what was installed.

Here are 17 versions that are compatible for XP

http://www.oldapps.c...stem=Windows_XP

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Looking over history of installed updates, I installed a patch for v 5.1.20913.0 on a 32 bit XP computer in October 2013.
I installed another security patch but could not determine the version of Silverlight on March 11 2014. On June 12, 2014, I removed Silverlight.
There were 7,147 registry entries!!!
oldapps.com, cool site
Yes because not only do they carry lots of old versions, they break it down by OS so you can see easily if a version you want works on an old computer with a retired OS.
Thanks for your help but it appears that the problem is more complicated than I originally thought.
Versions 5.x, 4.x and 3 refuse to install. I installed version 2 but the website I need it for requires a later version. Being a government website it doesn't tell me which version I need, just that version 2 is inadequate.
Fortunately I have an 8.1 box that came loaded with bloatware so it's probably already on there.
I no longer have a box running XP but I recall having problems with Silverlight when try to use Netflix. There was a file that needed to be deleted before it would install. If you have a Netflix account, try using it on the XP box and then google the error number it gives to find the file name and its location.
You also need to clean out the remnants of those failed installed. This is either automated or a manual listing all the entries that need to be removed.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2608523
This long thread http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-windows_programs/unable-to-install-silverlight-installation-failed/972054f6-7644-4414-aadd-1fd0aaecf092?auth=1
also seems to point out that there might be registry entries remaining
I'm at wits end.
I thought Silverlight would run with my W8.1 machine but no luck. All I can see is the spinning ball which eventually gets 100% but never displays anything else.
I'm using Firefox 44.01 and Silverlight 5.1.30514.0 - it's a little old, July, 2014.
My last option is to install the latest version of Silverlight that is compatible with W8.1. Should I remove the existing installation first, as I have seen recommended here, or just overwrite it, as Microsoft wants me to do?
BTW, here's the site that doesn't work in case anyone wants to try it. http://www.mypalmbeachclerk.com/courtrecords.aspx From there click on the link in the right sidebar that says "Search Court Records".
That's genius of local government.
Complain that they don't have enough money.
Install new recordkeeping software that's already 5 years of date.
Disable the old recordkeeping system so it can't be used as an emergency fallback.
Can't figure out to get the new system working.
The From should not be part of his link.
http://www.mypalmbeachclerk.com/courtrecords.aspx
is the link.
I'll fire up my Win 7 that has Silverlight on it v. 5.1.30514.0 and see what happens. BRB
Loads fine in Palemoon on Windows 7
I'll fire up IE and FF ESR just to see if they work.
FF ESR v 38.6 and IE 11 give the same display as I posted above from palemoon.
I'm not sure what is preventing you from seeing the site.
I don't know how the "A" got into the link. This is the correct link:
http://www.mypalmbeachclerk.com/courtrecords.aspx
I think that's the page you're on, zlim. I'm trying to get past that.
From there click on the link that says "Search Court Records". I examined the source code and there is definitely something there. It just doesn't show up in Pale Moon, Firefox or Maxthon. IE6 just says "page cannot be displayed. The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings."
I would not expect much to work on IE6!!! You have to be using IE 11 or if in Vista 10. That's it.
Everything I click on in Palemoon loads
That was IE11, not 6.
Anyway, I tried a couple more ideas. There is a Silverlight configuration tool but it doesn't do much of anything. And I turned off Avast but that didn't help.
I have another computer I can try but I'm done for the day. Maybe Friday or over the weekend. I may have to look to a dedicated Silverlight help forum.
