Screen Protectors

Recommended Posts

Being new to the "tablet" world I am wondering if a screen protector is really needed. There seems not to be a univerrsal agreement. I don't want to spend money on "it's possible so I do it" Some are expensive for my Kindle and iPad Air.

What are the opinions here, and anyone ever scratch a screen?

Thanks,

Jerry

Well generally they are not needed as gorilla glass is pretty scratch resistant but I usually use them on my phones but not my tablets. The reason being is I am more prone to dropping or putting my phone in my pocket than I do my tablets. So to answer your question, I wouldn't worry about it on tablets.

If you do get one, do not get the thin protectors. I would suggest the ones that are more of a thicker material, almost glass as the protector would shatter before the gorilla glass would.

Check eBay. You can find cheap screen protectors there for most any tablet. You'll see some expensive ones but you only need a cheap one to protect against scratches. They'll even help keep cracks from spreading.

Thanks for the replies. I have been using a cleaner used on eye glasses with a 100% cotton cloth. So far I have seen no sign of scratching.

Unfortunately by time you "see signs of scratching", it's too late. When you can get protection for a couple of bucks, then why not?

It,s most likely to get scratched when it,s put down on a desk or kitchen cabinet .All sorts . Much better to keep it in a soft pouch when not in use .. As for protection when in use . Put a piece of cling film over the screen . It will feel and look like a protector. But then I kinda live way out in the boonies and have to extemporise a lot ...

Cling film IS a protector. Anything that comes between the screen and ANY abrasive contact is "protection". It doesn't have to be something that keeps the screen from breaking.
