Do NOT update!Folks,As part of the latest updates here, I have lost the function of my USB mouse on one of my computers. I have since then stopped the update on my main machine. I am currently trying to figure out why the mouse is not working, and will alert you as soon as I find a solution.Adam

Ahhh... xorgconfig? There are a bunch of mouse types listed there. If you can get a working config with that, you can at least see what type of mouse works, and paste that into your regular xorg.conf.

Running 'modprobe evdev' at the console as root might help. That's what was suggested for people who experienced this problem late in 2006's development, anyway, so it might be good for previous versions too...
Please try this . . . and let us know if it worksB) Bruno

Can you do a "lsmod"on both systems and compare "before" and "after" update ??I am checking the output of the updates . . .;) Bruno

Bruno.....1. List of differences between the two system's lsmod outpus is numerous... completely different hardware.2. The sysctl files are not much different..... only chnages were for net.ipv4 entries.3. Hotplug is working... my thumbdrives are working.

3. Hotplug is working... my thumbdrives are working.
Yep but maybe the mouseconfig is still pointing to the old location ? ( Just guessing )You can also check http://qa.mandriva.com/buglist.cgi?bug_sta...alue1-0-3=mouse the 2006 bugreports on USB mouse. Also: did you upgrade your kernel ?? And if so are you using the correct initrd.img ? ( I know . . sounds stupid but still doublecheck . . . );) BrunoPS: Sorry deleted the "changes-file" on the other computer since all was okay . .

:( . . does not look like they came up with a solution yet . . . . ( no replies in that thread )What if you unplug the mouse and (hot)plug it back in ??B) Bruno
How do I check mouseconfig?
Running mousedrake :(

Maybe check:/etc/sysconfig/mouse/etc/udev/rules.d/mouse.rules.old/etc/udev/conf.d/mouse.conf/etc/makedev.d/mouse.conf/etc/devfs/conf.d/mouse.confB) Bruno

The only one I do not see is mouse.rules.old:hmm:The rest appear to be shell scripts. I do not know what they are doing.
Have a look on what those files look like in Drake ( again above your post :PWill have a look at mouse.rules.old . . B) Bruno

What if you make a "/etc/udev/rules.d/mouse.rules" with the text I posted above ? Maybe it is an udev issue . . . You can always remove the file if its no goodB) BrunoFORGET IT: PClos has that file already . . . . . . then maybe rename it so it is un-active ?

DEVPATH is not set
Do you have a /dev/usbmouse ??This is from my PCLos:

Sure wish I had read this an hour earlier BEFORE I decided to update.I typed X at the login and got a listing of problems the last being Fatal server error: no screens foundI don't think I'll get a display.errors: 1. Failed to load module "/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.a" (open failed,2) dlopen:/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/r128_drv.so: undefined symbol: gR128EntityIndex3. No devices detectedPlease also check the log file at "var/log/Xorg.0.log" for additional information. I don't know if that is on my computer or on the internet. It makes no sense to me other than the update broke some stuff. I only posted it so you can see what happened.

Liz,You need to run XFdrake in the command line interface, and you should have a restoral of your X. See the post stickied at the top of ATL.

Adam, I just ran the live CD and installed it again.I will look at XFDrake so the next time it happens, I won't have to reinstall. Thanks.

I'm glad that I'm not alone in this adventure today! I had updated the kernel to 2.6.12 oci4 before I did the updates and it slammed me good. Couldn't boot cause the /dev/root file system was not ext 2? So I did a re-install after grumbling and wishing that I wasn't trying to convince my son-in-law that Linux was the way to go today as he was watching! Then foolishly did the updates without the latest kernel and there I was back at the beginning with no mouse this time. I'm on istall #3 today and trying to get all my email out of the old thunderbird acct. I hope I can still convince him that Linux is better by recovering everything that I need to!

Hi Roger and AdamAny chance you can boot from the old kernel ?? ( it should still be there in /boot so you should be able to ) :hmm: Bruno

Mine looks like the above.... the link is slightly different. I don't think that it makes a difference, though.Tried the older kernel..... no luck there.

Problem Solved!!

mousedev/hid is already built into our kernels and not as a module though itif was then mousedrake would try to load it.Do you have usbmouse in /etc/modprobe.preload or /etc/modprobe.config? If soremove it or add blacklist usbmouse in modprobe.conf and see what happens. You can always back it out with nano.I think we ran into this problem with the livecd at one point because it wasloading the usbmouse and screwing up things.Tex
Adding "blacklist usbmouse" to /etc/modprobe.conf did the trick! My mouse lives! :DAdam
