Remember Johnny Rivers? He's still with us although he hasn't been on the charts in close to 40 years. He was huge back in the 1960s though - especially his live stuff like this one from the Whisky-a-Go-Go in LA.

This LP was one of the great "live" ones from the 1960s - no psychedelia, extended guitar jams or audience rapport - just good old fashioned R&B and blue-eyed Memphis soul. His back up band was a collection of real pros - LA session musicians mostly. Enjoy this old Rufus Thomas composition.

Ah, yes... Johnny Rivers. My fav song of his is...

P.S. I see YouTube links aren't parsing as media on the board again. How'd we fix that the last time?

A bit of Johnny Rivers history:

Born John Henry Ramistella in New York, he moved with his family to New Orleans where he got into the music scene early. He was inspired to change his name by Alan Freed.

He worked as a songwriter and studio musician in Nashville and later in LA. When the Whisky a Go Go opened in Los Angeles he got a gig as the host performer. He was/is always a dynamic stage presence and his first two albums were live ones. They have been remastered and put on a CD and are great fun if you like the oldies.

He went on to have a string of hits in the 70s but is largely forgotten today unless you are an early classic rock fan.
