Capt.Crow
I agree , with one proviso. It's the record companies that always cream off the lion's share . The musicians get a pittance. Then get hammered for all those rotten taxes. The best money I ever made was busking in the tunnels at Marble Arch and outside the Serpentine cafe in Hyde park on sunny Sunday afternoons. 2hrs playing and a nice looking chick to collect and we lived well all week ,maybe more. crp
you're feeling sorry for GrooveShark? My gosh, they willfully cheated, stole and lied to the court. These guys weren't Napster , or a YouTube. plus they had bad client software. if you want the stuff that badly , dl it like everyone else does - from torrents
V.T. Eric Layton
I liked GrooveShark because I prefer to listen online. I don't need to steal (download from illegal sites) music to my own system to enjoy it. To me, GrooveShark was just like listening to broadcast radio. I turned it on and chose a playlist, or let their software choose one based on my preferences/history, and listened till I get tired and turned it off. I wasn't stealing by just listening, I didn't think. I have very little music on my system. What I do have are rips of music I already bought and paid for and have in my vinyl and CD library. Having a digital copy on my computer to listen to is convenient. As far as I know, it's still legal to copy music for your own personal use. Or have the copyright police gotten so strict these days that making that fun mix cassette from the radio is a Guantanamo offense? Anyway...

I wasn't stealing by just listening, I didn't think[...] the companies did not go after the listeners in GrooveShark but GrooveShark itself. i don't think any of the companies would consider the listeners as being thieves. But sheesh, what GrooveShark the company , its employees and lawyers did - at least try to hide it.
Cluttermagnet
Siiighhhh... yep, I'm going to have to learn how to torrent. Sad to see Grooveshark go. I just love to see the greedy music giants all flustered over this sort of thing. Some day maybe they will go the way of the dinosaur. Why is it that the entities on the supposed 'right' side of the law are always so evil? I'm cheering for Robin Hood...
V.T. Eric Layton
Well, a long time back I had signed on an account at Slacker Radio. I logged in there tonight and started snooping around. It won't be a perfect replacement for GS, but I can manage. Besides, it has a cool name.
V.T. Eric Layton
I'm playing around with Rdio tonight, but they nag too much about my adblocker.

V.T. Eric Layton
I'm finding that I don't really love either Slacker or Pandora as much as I did GrooveShark, so what I did tonight was organize all my audio on my computer into playlists and I'm listening to them in shuffle mode in VLC on my own system. CPU/RAM usage for VLC = not much at all. Happy computer now.
